Does Virtual Reality merit its own sub forum?

Interesting. Given the scale of what this round of VR is likely to become, the press attention it's had, and the fact that it's split across three (thanks Nismo) sub forums at the moment, I'd have thought there'd at least be a good chunk of people that thought it was a good idea.

Can we have a poll please?

- Yes
- No
- Just show me the porn

I accept that it's very much in its infancy however. But then how 'on the water' ever got through governance is anyone's guess :p.

I agree that the existing structure needs an overhaul to get rid of the less relevant / less used sections.

It's currently split between GPU and Mobile Phones, and it doesn't exclusively sit in either.

Flame away.

You need a flagship Samsung Galaxy phone to use Gear VR and it's a phone accessory so it does fit in Mobile Phones.

You also forgot that the gamers already have it covered in PC Games so at present really no need to make a sub forum.

Phoned based VR can go in phones, VR gaming chat can go in gaming, VR GPU discussion can go in GPUs. However where does chat about the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, along with the myriad of other devices that will inevitably be released, most naturally sit?

If consensus is 'just stick it in general hardware' then ok, but I personally think it's too big a deal to get lost in there.

Wait until you're experiencing an astronaut in space wearing a VR camera on a space walk and streaming it live back to earth Cosimo, then you'll want a dedicated room for it, never mind sub forum!

VR comes around every decade and it fails every time, this latest one looks no different.

Whilst i agree that it's quite "fad" like and gimmicky in some people's opinions (mine included), it's certainly quite different now!

Just seen this.

"No different", lmao.

Indeed, so different and it's not going to bow out this time. It's here to stay.

Maybe a little early, but forums could do with a rigor. As pointed out CD drive forum is well overdue it's 6ft under appointment

Not convinced myself really...

For a niche market if it gets games on board I can see it doing well. But it's for those people who want realism at any cost and space. Not your average gamer.

It's being discussed, so in about 25 years when the world has moved onto the next thing you will get a sub forum.

:D

My first thought when I saw his comment

If your gonna have any graphics related sub forums make nvidia and amd sections so the fanbois can be segregated to their own areas while the adults are allowed to discuss the real merits of each type of card

lol. They'd still cross over and poop on each others lawn though ! :D

When the consumer VR headsets get here yeah it would be nice to have a Vr subforum. At the moment Vr focused threads are dispersed all over the forums...rather fractured.

Even in pc games posting Vr stuff in the specific game isn't entirely helpful because a lot of people don't play (insert game) in VR.

If VR is gonna have a chance it needs space to grow.

And tbh no votes shouldn't have a say (how does it affect them if they aren't interested anyway?) You should count the amount of people who do want it and are interested in it.
