I am thinking about installing vista on my computer and was wondering if vista recognised sata drivers on install.

As Xp didnt and you need files to install.

Thanks

I run my SATA drives under the IDE mode thingy, so they don't need drivers. But that really doesn't help you, so I don't know why I've posted? ;)

It depends on the SATA controller and how the disks are configured. Most configurations don't need drivers for either XP or Vista but some older controllers and all RAID setups will still need drivers.

XP definitely needs SATA drivers to install, or it simply won't find your hard drives.

Having said that, if you go into the BIOS and change the IDE setting to "Compatibility" mode or something, XP should find the SATA drives.

XP doesn't have any SATA drivers in it, you have to press "F6" when it tells you to then insert a floppy disk that contains your drivers.

Vista however installs on a SATA no problem.

So with Vista I would just be abe to select the sata driver as the OS without having to install drivers/files and such?

XP found my Sata drives without me doing anything, Vista did the same.

Thats not what I wanted to hear lol

What I need is for the installation disk to find my sata driver so I can install the OS on the sata HD. At the moment it only sees my IDE driver when trying to install.

Or because my rig is old will i need to install the drivers with F6? If so is there a way I can put them on a cd or something other than a floppy as I dont have one installed?

is a link that talks about slipstreaming XP with SP2 and other updates, you also select the integrate drivers and point it at the directory where the drivers are extracted too. It really can't be simpler. As the item is 2 years old then ignore the peice about version numbers and use the latest versions.

is the link to the official nlite guide.

the vlite for vista works in the same way just is Vista rather then XP.

You will need to get the drivers for your SATA downloaded first and extract them to the local drive.

My problem is that I cant find the drivers for the sata drivers. I might have found them but I am not sure what the extension is or if its the correct one im looking for.

I tried the nlite for XP installation but this wanted to create a buring session for a disk. But then the data was too big for a CD to create (Just over one gig). So am i doing this wrong?
