Does winning determine who is "better" at something?

Had a debate with a few people regarding this last night. Just wondered other peoples opinions?

Out of interest. I said, no... they said yes.

They are better at that something on that day, not necessarily overall. Barcelona have lost many football matches to teams which are much worse than the, for example.

I'd say 'being better' is a factor which can influence who the victor will be, rather than the other way around.

Winning just means you did the best at the time.

Id say no

If you were at winner at something MULTIPLE times

then I would say yes

Anyone could have a lucky "fluke", doesnt mean you were better at it unless you done it over and over again.

look at it as a race, winning a race means you have won or was faster, not neccesarily 'better'.

but when you're judging a runner (specific distance) then the winner runs "better" than the loser.
