If a shop ( spar ) has no mention of NO DOGS ALLOWED on the door, window, or any noticable area, where do i stand with taking a small dog into the shop in my arms ?

me and moses just went for a walk, i had no cigs so went to the spar, there is no chance in hell im leaving him outside so i pick him up and in we go, woman looks at me and says no dogs allowed, i tell her to show me a sign saying no dogs allowed, she couldnt, so i get my 20 marleys and we both leave.

all i want to know is if there is no sign on the door stating no dogs allowed am i allowed to take my dog in

Why don't you just tie it up outside like everyone else does?

And since there's a general accepted rule that you don't take dogs into shops and there always has been, why do you then make a big fuss about it?

You are allowed to but its there choice if they ask you to leave or not.

Shops should be more accepting of dogs. Germany was great they were allowed to take them anywhere.

Shop owner has the final say, there doesn't have to be a sign, if you try to take a dog in and they say "sorry, no dogs allowed", it's no dogs allowed.

A lot of people don't seem to understand that the power lies with the shop owners, not the customer, you can be refused service for nearly any reason.

As said, they could refuse to serve you for being ugly, or having spinach in your teeth, or for wearing shorts or anything they like.

Yup, I'm with you: no sign= dogs allowed.

Incidentally, there is no legislation banning dogs where food is sold (restaurant etc) so it's just down to company policy if they refuse admission.

Except he was told dogs are not allowed (by an employee I presume), so that's the final world. No dogs allowed.

OP - Why do you feel the need to take your dog to the shops? I ask because juring the summer I often notice cars left inside of cars, and have to question why they are even brought there in the first place.

I used to work in a shop as a teenager, and we had a "no dogs allowed" sign but tended to turn a blind eye if someone carried a little dog in.

The issue is that shop owners don't want a great dane wandering into the shop, frightening small children and cocking its leg on the pick and mix...

I wouldn't see a problem with a little dog being carried. But then again, I'm not a shop owner, and I tie my dog up outside like everyone else has to.

on a slight tangent why isn't your dog walking? Its a dog not a baby?

because i pick him up so he can order is cigs !

i know its not a baby crow, its just easier to pick him up in the shop than have little chavvy kids trying to stroke him or give him sweets and stuff

We all understand the various reasons why a dog may not be welcome but if you don't want 'em in your shop, make it clear by putting up a notice; not waiting until the dog has been taken around the shop/until the staff notice and then saying "dogs not allowed".

Believe it or not, some places don't mind responsible dog owners and their animals entering their premises.

and what makes me laugh is they do have a sign on the door saying " hoods are to be removed before entering the shop "
