Dog problem

What's the difference, if it poops in the garden or if it poops on the walk, you pick it up in both scenarios I hope?

Well I don't know. Can you tell for certain when a dog is 'touching cloth'? My point is a dog should be allowed to excrete when it needs to and not when its owner wants it to.

There are millions of dogs who live indoors and only go outside. If that's a form of abuse then, by the same logic, humans holding it until they reach a bathroom is a human rights issue, correct?

The dog gets at least 3 walks per day, morning, noon, evening, which is sufficient.

Yeah?:p
When you need to go do you just fill your pants where you're sitting or standing or do you go to the toilet as you've been trained to do?

.

Erm, well yes you are very correct. Being prevented by someone else from going to the bathroom when you decide to is very much a human rights issue.

Holding it by choice? No. Your dog isn't choosing though, you are.

That is not the same thing at all?

You said you don't know much about dogs so I'm not sure why you are replying in this thread. Dogs are very much like children, parents make decisions for their children all the time, including teaching them when to poop, so there's nothing wrong with dog owners doing it.

Why not?
You've been trained by your parents to poop in a toilet, before that you were happy enough pooping in your pants.
You've been trained not to excrete when (and where) you want to and now do it exactly as you were trained to do.

Because I'm not waiting until someone tells me it's time to go to the toilet which is effectively what OP expects of his dog.

Our Border Collie is 10 months now and it took him ages before he would poo in public. We could take him out for a walk for ages and he'd hold it in till he got home. He worked it out in the end and he quite happily poos outside where ever now.

If it bothers you that much, supervise the dog in the garden and toilet train it as you would have in the house. Essentially the principle is the same, indoors or out, it is a space you don't want the dog using as a toilet. I don't understand why it's such a problem though, and personally I would just do a quick daily check to remove poop. You'll probably find its a security thing.

Your dog feels safe to go to the toilet in the garden which is 'his' space. Out and about he'll be picking up on other dogs and might not feel safe enough to go. If that's the case he will probably grow out of it.

Interesting, he does seem more aware of other dogs and their scent nowadays and there are certain areas he dislikes.

When your parents were training you where to poop you did exactly that.
You learnt that you had to wait until you got home or taken to toilet in a shop or somewhere similar to go.

Owner of 3 dogs here. Keep up a routine of walk times and don't let him into the yard. Will soon get used to the routne but ou might have some internal accidents until it works out.

Sometimes it just can't be helped and they need to go out sooner or later. Mine go out 3 times a day though so they're pretty well catered for. Routine is key, they know when they're gonna go exactly. Well until daylight savngs messes it up haha.

Best advice in the thread. It's easy to train a dog to only go on its walks, but it requires routine.
