Seen it plenty of times... the dog usually sits on the floor.. people tend to favour the seats near the doors.

We've taken ours on a GNER train before, we picked a seat with a table in the middle and she sat underneath it.

Best ring the train company first though just to check.

My mother takes her dog on the train frequently. I am sure if it is well behaved it is not a problem in either class.

Not aware of any specific restrictions on dogs in 1st, either

It's very rare you find them in standard though, let alone 1st - so if its a dog free trip you are after you need not be concerned.
