Hi,

Just putting together my new system with a Asus P7H55-M board. My question is about the 8 pin power socket near the CPU. For some reason there's a small black cap over 4 of the pins (see attached image). Do I just remove it and plug in the 8 pin cable, or is it telling me to use the older 4 pin cable in the 4 open holes. The cap just clips right off if you pull it, but I can't figure out what it's there for.

Here's a close up view of the cap on half of the 8 pin power connector-

Thanks in advanced :)
Simon.

Yeah just take it off mate, Thats your mobo power connection. it can be a bit fiddly but it justs flips off.

As Thegoon said, just take it off.

I believe its there if you use a 4 pin power connector, you don't plug it in wrong. Although i am sure it will only go in a certain way. Plus it acts as a dust cap.

I never thought about it when I saw it, wasn't sure what it was there for, but I just thought, "Well its an i7, so it'll need all 8 pins" :p

Its for people who may have old psus and have only a 4 pin cpu power cable but if you have a relatively new psu then just use all 8 as it will help with OVERCLOCKING!

Thanks guys, everything working fine with the full 8 pins connected :)

Can't wait to try some GTA4 on my new I5-760.

HERE HERE!!!!

Its on the rampage 2 boards.... got me think hmmmmmmmmm... but having a play about is key.... i also caused me problems cos the corsair psu's give you a MEGA short lead!!!

Yep, the corsair 8 pin connector is very short, worse for me due to having a very tall full tower case, also i gotta admit, i hate the flat modular cables they use on their psu's, very hard to tidy or hide.

Glad you got it sorted fish. :)

@ Thegoon84.

What case and psu have you got?

I used to have a Corsair HX520 in a Antec P182 and the 8 pin cable reached no problem, even behind the motherboard tray.

Mine is a HX520 too, and it's only just long enough to be able to be able to reach and tidy it away nicely. That's mainly cause it's a Antec 300 case though with the PSU at the bottom.

In other news, GTA4 rocks with an I5-760
