Doing nothing at work

Like I said above, it's become very fashionable on here. It is thrown around in many, many threads.
About 3 threads in the last 4 months, one of which was regarding a self identifying guy who'd killed several people in Plymouth, and one about online dating, this seems to the only thread where it's not related to the topic and I've no idea why it's cropped up in here.

Not exactly "thrown around in many threads".

Can we please get the thread somewhat back on topic?

In my experience you don't really need to try that hard to show management/the company that you're a valuable asset. I've been fortunate to get out what I've put in where I am, too - I have previously worked in retail with a similar mindset and it got me absolutely nowhere; I wasn't coming across as a teacher's pet or know-it-all, I genuinely just think it's in my nature.

My post was more in reference to the poster above who said their work is done by 11am and they game/sunbathe for the rest of the day. I mean, fair enough if that's your thing, but I just couldn't do that personally.

To be fair I completely agree, I work from home and as far as I am aware I’m completely trusted to do my job. Even if I have nothing to do, I’m the same you, I struggle to go gaming etc. I’ll surf the web looking at the industry I’m in which for me is happy middle ground.

Enough please, let's not drag FoxEye through another battering.

Back on topic... my job is consultancy based so it can vary between being ridiculously busy, or quite manageable. We aim for about 75% utilisation. Loads to be getting on with during the quieter times though. Keeping your skills up to date is really important and no-one will do it for you.
70% here for delivery roles - for Lead roles that drops to about 40% but we are billed at a higher rate.

Back on topic then, I regularly do very little at work. Currently working from home most of the time but it's not much different when I'm in the office. I'm in a weird middle ground between regular worker and team lead (I was in line for a promotion around the beginning of COVID but it fell through for one or two reasons that I can't be bothered to go through), so I only do a small amount of BAU work and a small amount of more senior work. The correct response of course would be to either look for a team lead role elsewhere or work my nuts off here to push for something better but the truth is I've lost all my motivation so I just sit here browsing OcUK instead :D

I regularly do very little at work.

Perhaps these two points are correlated.

Trust is a major component in the workplace, and the staff that abuse it are the reason the rest of us have to suffer with certain aspects of employment.

If I'm "on the clock" and have literally nothing to do, and can't find anything to do, I'd still feel guilty about doing stuff for myself. Through lockdown and WFH I can do loads of stuff on my lunch anyway, that I couldn't in the office. Go for a run, mow the lawn, tidy the house - that's the sort of stuff I'm going to miss when being back in the office.

I feel it gets old doing nothing at all. I'd rather have some goal to work towards.

The goal could be thinking up ways that would prevent whoever is higher up the food chain from ever finding out that you’re doing little or nothing, then relax and read the paper.

They're not - I was doing the work required to get promoted and was receiving good feedback, and ultimately I turned down the package that was offered. My lack of motivation and output has happened since then (although it's fair to say that I didn't exactly enjoy my job before).

Autonomy, Purpose and Mastery you have all of those in your workplace you are living the dream. I'd say I definitely have 2 of those 3.
