doing the unthinkable?

The PC has lost all interest fr me to be honest, theres no decent games otu and i find myself getting wound up playing CSS, which is extremely old. Its such a pleasurable thing being able to go out and look at games for my 360 without the worry of "will it run smoothly".

I couldnt do what the OP is saying abotu ditching the PC as it would kill me, but im perfectly happy for it to sit on its current specs until it is a must to upgrade, which I cant see happening any time soon as all of the games i want are on the 360.

you have a fair point...i too am in the process of putting together a new system for my 3 year old p4-2.8Ghz.... a decent system came to 700ish...

or, i could just buy a premium xbox360 for 280 quid and even with afew games, wont break the 400 barrier...

another alternative is a Wii, for only 180 bucks......

i currently dont know of any decent PC games out there to justify the cost, and i can think of several 360 games that i wouldnt mind playing...

hmmmm.....

Forget about the money, think about what your playing on it. I think you have already have your answer.

And what is all this "true gamer" nonsense I keep hearing about, as if sticking "true" in front of "gamer" makes you somehow superior or somehow better than someone who has "casual" instead. Personally I find anyone sat on their own in a bedroom for hours upon end thinking they are "true" anything a little disconcerting. The only true thing they are is unprintable on this forum group

I've been an avid pc and console for far too many years now. Consoles get most play time these days simply because a far higher quantity of quality titles appear on them. It pains me to say that, but it's true. pc gaming has been in decline for a quite a while now - you only have to look at some of the 'best pc games' lists that often crop up on forums all over the net to see this. Grim Fandango, Deus Ex, Planescape Torment, System Shock, Halflife, civ (could go on and on) ... all old games. Where's the innovation and creativity that made pc gaming so attractive gone? Today we get dull rehash after dull rehash.

I'll keep a reasonably current specced machine for the odd rts and online shooter (can't wait for Quake Wars), but continue look to consoles for something new and exciting.

should have seen my friend who had just bought a 8800GTX - look at the XBOX 360 (which cost almost 1/2 the 8800GTX price) - displaying COD3 in HD on a 42 inch Plasma, tonnes of things going on, smooth as silk !

he was quite surprised.

I have both a decent gaming PC setup and a XBOX 360 - and its certainly made me cancel my 8800GTX upgrade I was planning.

Real Gamers don't worry about what system they play their game on they just play.

Only Fanbois, Forum Jockeys and trolls worry about such things

I couldn't dump my pc yet. Currently use 360 for single player games and pc for the online ones. For me console online play just doesn't match up yet.

Mostly P2P and low player counts , where are the 64 player games for this "next gen console". Untill P2P buggers off and they get dedicated servers and up the player counts to match pc games , I think my pc will always have a place.

Also can't forget the mods :).

hmmmm, I'm 37, played almost every console / top pc game sinch 1977..... it's nice to be called a kid.

i didn't ask for a pc v console flam, just if people have done it and what do they think.

seems to me the people who bitch about pc v console are the kiddys. Why do posts like this always go the same way :(

Because "Family friendly" forum means we have to put up with little kiddies :(

God there has been some abosolute tosh being written in this thread.

From summer of 2004 to March 2005 I had to live without a PC, and thus missed out on Farcry, DoW and HL2 at Launch. Missed two of those games very badly and bought them as soon as my PC was built. Therefore from my experience it was difficult living without a Gaming PC, but not impossible if the situation had dicatated otherwise.

Since that time I've bought a DS, Wii and Xbox360 as new machines and still play DoW every so often.

Bacuase this 2 year old machine needs an upgrade for Vista (CPU, Ram, DX10 etc) I have definately questioned spending the £1,000 to get the machine. I think a couple of things 'may' keep me on a gaming PC. A couple of games look interesting; Hellgate, Crysis and HL2:EP2 (Valve's home format still) and the versatility swing it.
