Just a rant really. I want tobes.com but it was registered in 1998 and it's renewal date ends in 2010.

It just times out when I try it. Just annoying that I can't have something which isn't being used.

Stupid question, but anyway around it?
 
Same here I want a few domains I'd like and these are not being used in any form at all :mad:. It's very hard to get a good type of .com domain these days , and when you say to someone you have a website they automatically think .com :(

I dont think there is any way around it as they could simply say "oh yea the websites under construction" or something stupid.
 
yeah does suck, far too often i'm wanting a domain name that is taken but not being used. have contacted a few peope asking to buy it but not one has ever recieved a reply as i can only assume the address is no longer being checked.

in all honesty though, do you really think that not having the name tobes.com affects you in anyway? facebook started as thefacebook.com which in no way hurt it's progress, once it was big enough it bought the domain facebook.com for i think £20,000 or £250,000 which of course now helps as thefacebook sucks but as i have said does it really matter on the name at the stage you are with your site?

another example is rob millers website, something weird like robm.uk.me.com or something, not a great name but the reason people go isn't for the name but for the great content.
 
Not having it doesn't effect me. It would just be nicer.

I mean I have never had a email address like [email protected]. I have always thought about short or original things.

Today I have been in a mood and I'm fed up with Tob3z and my email mr.tob3z@. It's just lame. Though gmail wont allow for 5 character usernames so I though, why not buy the domain. When it timed out I thought I was in luck. But no...

It just sucks :(

So whats saying they are not using the domain for other things such as email? There doesn't have to be a website attatched to mean it is being used.
