Hi guys,

Gonna sound really dumb but I've had a busy day and my mind hurts.. XD

Basically I am trying to completely migrate my company to cloud based services, we have moved our email from our exchange to office 365 and its working fine, i've also moved our documents and storage to sharepoint online, I am in the process of planning to remove our reliance on the domain and instead adminstrate our users pcs/laptops using intune, however I just realised that our server seems to control internet access, I believe it assigns ip addresses, can someone help me work out a way to stop our reliance on the server completely.
Our infrastructure is like this..

Synchronous Leased Line ISP -> Firewall -> Router

the router then transmits one LAN cable to our SBS 2008 server as well as wirelss and rj45's to all our desktops.

How is the server controlling ip addresses from here? If the server is off then no pc's get internet, as I said at the start, this will sound really obvious but I've had an insanely stressful day :)

Cheers,

Jamie

Your server has the dhcp role installed?

But that alone won't control internet access, the server must also be acting as a proxy server for the clients.
Does it have anything installed on it to help it do this? (like Microsoft TMG)
Take a look at all the roles / features installed on the server and post details.
You will also want to look at the group policies you are forcing out to clients as they will tell the client where to go.

This is what I found so far, duno if it's any use, not entirely sure what im hunting for :P

Ok so this information is under Server manager-roles-dhcp server-airserver.airtelecom.local-ipv4-scope 192.168.10.0-address leases

It seems to be assigning IP address for the router :o

this is under address pool

Start IP Address End IP Address Description
192.168.10.1 192.168.10.10 IP Addresses excluded from distribution
192.168.10.1 192.168.10.254 Address range for distribution

Are your client PCs in the domain? If so, are you taking them out of it and sorting out user profiles? Any synchronization for users / passwords from your domain to O365?

Stop and disable the dhcp service on the server, you can start it in seconds if you can't get the router working.

start - run - services.msc

Is this the service, sorry if I sound thick XD

If you stop DHCP services on the server and start them on the router (which brand is it?) you will need to do an ipconfig /renew on all the clients or reboot them.

Your firewall could probably also do this role dependent on model.

Do a google search for the default password for whatever the make / model is.. its probably admin and a blank password!
You could also do a factory reset if its been changed but you would lose all the configuration on it.

I've tried every possible user/pass combo to no avail sadly, and I am considering whether it is even worth resetting it due to the fact that it won't even transmit wireless anymore, I'm having to use a cheap, old netgear router hooked up to the buffalo for wifi access (without having to buy a new WAP).

May be best just to buy a new router that will support switches for VoIP Vodafone one net system and ethernet for clients, as well as wireless access for our mobile devices, any recommendations?

So does anyone know if this will work:

When I am ready to fully deploy InTune to administrate our PC's and remove the server, I just need a new router that is able to do it's own DHCP and assign IP's, then reboot all of the client machines?
