)Hi,

Got an email from a company called www.ygnetwork.cn - saying that an overseas company is attempting to register the .com, .com.cn, .hk and .asia versions of our company name (we have had the the .com and .co.uk's for years). The subject looks quite official too: " notice protect-- internet trademark intellectual property safeguard."

It's a bit weird as he's not trying to sell me anything, but says it's the Chinese registrars duty to inform us of such changes before they allow another overseas company (Haitong Investment apparently) to register this domain.

Is this normal, as I've never come across this.

Thanks

Thanks chaps :)

EDIT: Shag :( Just got an email off my boss mentioning that the idea of having asia domains is good. First thing Monday morning I've now got to go an register the .hk, cn., .com.tw, .asia and .com.cn versions of the company name - what a pain in the ass :)

There's plenty of these scams going round. Don't just register those domains blindly - think about if they're any use to your company. Are the Hong Kong and Taiwanese markets important to the business? Would having them add anything extra to the company's web presence over and above the standard .com/.co.uk? Unless you work for a multinational, the answer is probably no.
