Dominican Republic

I was looking at holidays to places like the Dominican Republic such as Barbados and Antigua but we found that in July (or even September, when we were looking at) the weather is quite sporadic seen as it's Hurricane season.

Have a think about that before you book, the Caribbean is also full of pirates, watch out, yarr.

yeah, careful of hurricane season. also reviews i have read have suggested not going out there at christmas.

Dont listen to this pansy talk about Dominican Republic.

Grow some gonads, be nice and you wont get any trouble there.

I travelled on my own and spent 2 weeks in Puerta Plata at the Hacienda and many times, ventured into Puerta Plata for some local fun and beers.

Never got robbed, smacked, stabbed and had the time of my life.

It's just their way of life that makes many people uneasy. It's a load of arse being told that it's dodgy to venture outside the resort.

Forgot about this thread. We eventually settled for Dominican Republic again staying at the Grand Paradise Bavaro in Punta Cana.

Anyone been stayed here before?

I think thats the sister hotel to the Paradisus Punta Cana, which I got married in.

Cabarette is about the only place that really has a normal resort feel, most of the hotels are of a low-medium level though

Sosua has some nightlife but is a **** hole

/oops just seen you are booked

we have booked a week in Feb in Punta Cana staying here which looks ok

In punta cana?
the impression I got from the one we were in, and others that were local, were they were definitely above medium. the north of the island was low to medium

I meant the hotels in Cabarette, they tend to be marketed at the windsurfing brigade

so you wouldn't recommend it then ? :p ;)

Hell no! stay away!! nasty place hehe.

I did my best to put the wedding off (by smashing my face up) but the horrible horrible hotel had witch doctors who repaired me :/

Cabarette was rough. I was in Super Clubs Breezes Puerto Plata between Cabarette and Sosua and it was great. Cabarette and Sosua have great beaches but I wouldn't eat there and certainly not go out at night there.

I thought Sosua was rough but didn't mind Cabarette :)

In both places I was caned by traders and chicks tying foil and beads in my hair. Drove me mad. Beaches were stunning though, particularly Sosua. Even there they won't leave you alone.
