Dominican Republic

I stayed in Puerta Plata at the Hacienda Resort 3 years ago.

Went on my own and had the time of my life. You can venture out of the resort to the towns. All you need to do is ask reception for one of THEIR cabbie's, agree on a price and he will take you to town and walk everywhere with you.

If you go and you are near Juan Dolio you must rent a quad and hit the sugar cane fields. There is a monster track there for blasting about on. You do however have to sign a disclaimer dismissing any injuries etc...:)

I found there were mainly americans there but I did meet some europeans and some british people.

If your single then you have an even better advantage as the american girls love the english accents ;)

The only annoying thing was some dominicans trying to sell you their villa timeshares but apart from that they pretty much left me alone.

As for Immunisations:
Courses or boosters usually advised: diphtheria; tetanus; hepatitis A.
Vaccines sometimes advised: typhoid; tuberculosis; hepatitis B; cholera; rabies.

Went to a hotel in pueto plata some 4 months ago for 2 weeks, like most people have said theres not much todo other then relaxe.

Although we did make the mistake of trying togo to the shops in the local town where the shopkeepers were really aggressive (like blocking the exit to the shop to stop us leaving). we quickly push past it and back to the hotel.

but the hotel was great the food was good and got plenty of sun :)
