Donington Today

It was about 2s a lap quicker than anything else! Bob Berridge was interviewed after the race and asked what it was like down through the Craners. The answer? "Scary!"

2 seconds quicker? Nah :) Fastest race lap was a 1m00.701, only a tenth quicker than the Nissan.
Without the suspension issues that's the same sort of pace as we would have expected from the Spice.

Qualifying it did a 59.0, but again only 7 tenths quicker than a Spice (Albeit one with a big capacity american V8). In qualifying you would expect the car to potentially have an advantage over the non turbo cars as they can run full boost, which they may not be able to do all race.

What is incredible about the car is the power and torque it has, probably over 1000bhp. For comparison, the Spice has a Cosworth 3.5l DFR with ~600bhp. The difference in acceleration off the corners is massive. However, the 3.5litre cars are allowed to run 100kg lighter (800kg vs 900kg however in reality many of the 3.5l cars are more like 840kg) so the key to matching the Mercedes is carrying more speed through the corner!

In period of course, the C11 was pretty dominant. In historic group C, although it is no doubt still a very quick car, I think driven well, some of the other cars can still give it a run for it's money.

The C11 is for sale if you have somewhere between £1-2m handy

Housey: What were you driving> "Tripped over" was taken literally by me. I take it you had an in car accident and broke your ankle? Hope you are on the mend, whatever you were in all classes gave a great days spectator entertainment and interest.

No Chris sadly, I was due to be racing this weekend actually but nothing as grand as your Lola, just my MX5, but my broken fibula has put paid to that. Tell me, are you related to Jeff?

No relation at all, no. Sorry to hear of your break. I shared a garage with someone called Martin Tolley last Wednesday, when I was having a play in my GTS-t 2 wheel drive Skyline. He was testing his race MX-5, is he in your championship? He took a pal of mine out, and trying a bit too hard at the chicane "took air" (not an expression I was familiar with, but suitably descriptive, I thought :) ). My friend was somewhat alarmed, throwing up spectacularly as soon as he got out of the car ;) It was at the end of my track vid, as he came back to the garage the same time as I did, but I edited out to spare his blushes.

The yellow ADA in the Donington photos had a sister car, that ran a 6.2 litre Bonner V6 with MASSES of torque. That engine is sat in my workshop, I bought it quite reasonably, out of a March hillclimb car being converted back to OE spec, and would like to stick in the back of something like a Lola T70 kit car one day.

Jeff Wilson used to run a modified saloon in the 70's and 80's and was a regular at Donington in the Super Saloons back in the day in his DFV Beetle!

I know Martin and yes he is a regular in the Ma5da series. He helped our team in the early days get our act together and he has a robust style so I can understand he took air. :D The broken leg as somewhat of an annoyance (to say the least) but I plan to be out later in the season once fixed.
