Due to me not cleaning and lubing my chain often (done it about 2-3 times a year) i got to have a new one along with front and back spokes. Ive only done 8500 miles on the bike a chain thats looked after should have about 20,000 in it.
Also this morning i checked my tyres after finding the steering a little hard.
My front tyre should be 36dpi and it was....7dpi:rolleyes:
Im lucky i didnt have an accident, and stupid for not doing checks that should take less that 10 mins.
So after this i WILL do my checks a lot more regulary (every other saturday) and hopefully wont have to payout for new parts.

I actually enjoy doing maintenance on my bike so do it often. I probably clean and lube the chain too often.

7! Could you even turn? Last time I got tyres swapped they didnt come with air and I could only go in straight lines til they were pumped up

Am I totally misunderstanding this or did you get new tyres but inflation wasn't included?

I hope I'm being thick here :D

Yeh pretty much, the guy forgot to put air in them.

Its a race bike so wheels are taken down separately and tyres swapped. Felt alright to sit on but as soon as I let the clutch out it was fairly obvious.

Pressures checked before going out on track but not before a test run down the street lol

pays to carry a small tyre pressure guage in yer pocket, can check pressures easily then

to the op,dont you mean sprockets?

Yeah i mean front and rear sprockets. Well yeah i feel pretty silly, but ive learned from it and ill be looking after my bike properly now.
Edit: Turning feels awesome now, just so responsive its like i got a different bike.

Are they any good?

Look a bit silly but I guess they could be useful.

Yeah they seem to work ok. You buy those ones for your specific PSI requirement. I tested them by letting the tyres down and they do seem to indicate correctly.

I still check my tyre pressures with a pump once a month, but like I say, they're good for when you've just finished work etc. and can just have a quick glance that the indicator is still green.

Did you not notice the steering beforehand? I can tell if my tyres are even 2-3PSI down

This.

Guys, you really want to be checking tyre pressures at least every few days. I check mine before every ride. Every month or so isn't regular enough.

Pumped someones tyres up for them at work today. They were below 10psi on their mountain bike.......... also there was so much crud on the wheel rim that the brakes were constantly scraping.

you reall can tell the difference with a well maintained bike, especially with tyre pressure. I use 120psi on my road bikes tyres...
