DON'T BUY MSI THEY MIS-SOLD TOP SPEC GT SERIES LAPTOPS with MXM Graphics

i removed all spaces between [ and \ . there were 8 spaces

Removing the 8 spaces would display the following:

Before buying MSI readThis.

However there was a syntax error with the "\" should have been "/" correct bbcode:

[ COLOR=CYAN]Before buying MSI read [ /COLOR][ URL=https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/msi-mis-sold-gt72-gt80-with-mxm-graphics.18746748/][ COLOR=WHITE][ SIZE=6]This[ /SIZE][ /COLOR][ /URL].

Removing the 8 spaces after the "[" should work perfectly. :D
Ok I tweaked mine a little. ;)

I like your subtlety ;)

Finally got my payment this morning, the ordeal is over and i can try and forget about this whole thing.
I'm a little out of the loop.

Did you get a full refund from the retailer or upgrade and sell?

I paid MSI for the upgrade who sent it to HID (who were dealing with international shipping for me). I then asked HID (retailer) if they wanted to keep the machine and pay me for it, which they agreed to minus $190 from their RRP. So i'm down about £750 in total, but that was for 2 years use of my old machine i guess.

Here's our Graham with a quick reminder:

Just read the thread... wow, MSI really are a deceptive and dishonorable company... I am now giving serious thought to whether I want to go with them for a new 1070 SLI or 1080 laptop.

Taking the p*** now**** **** now :mad::mad:

MSI have shown they have no agility or customer service on this one.

wonder how many customers/future customers they have lost because of this one issue that could have been resolved so easily (yes they lose a bit of money, but they are going to lose money from the program + MASSIVE impact on future business, dumb move if you ask me)

I must say, this whole thing has meant MSI will be getting no money from me for any of their lines, and I have had a number of their graphics cards and motherboards in the past.

Hi i was told a few days ago that I have until the end of january to accept the msi offer or i can't do the trade in. I asked MSI if i could do the trade in towards the end of february as money is a bit tight at the moment. they said yes not a problem, then a couple of days later said i had to accept before the end of january and start shipping it to them or i will be excluded. WTF?? my warranty doesn't expire till march, and not once did anyone ever say I had only until end of january to accept the offer.

MSI is really ****ing me off now, I'm thinking of just going to small claims court to sue for a new laptop at mxm upgrade price. i just want to get this done with. this will probably be the last time i purchase MSI again, i might go back to alienware or try asus.

There is an ongoing class action case brought against MSI USA over the MXM fiasco.

All I want is an upgrade, in lieu of the actually MXM GPU, at a cost comparable with previous MXM upgrades, with no loss of features, hardly unreasonable. But MSI don't care about their customers.

I can't believe anyone would go out and buy an MSI laptop after having a read of this thread.

Hello,

Finally got my offer. GT72S 6QE-044UK bought March last year. £1784. So to get anywhere near the spec of my laptop it's £700. Queried this and apparently it's because the 1080 is more expensive.

Tried to see if I could go for a different product category but apparently to honour the original gt claim it has to stay on the gt laptops.

Ridiculous.
We were offered upgrade

Ill restate again

Price should be MXM Upgrade kit minus resale of gfx

The value of my laptop should ever enter this calculation

WOW this is still going on? Looking at the offers I can see why people are annoyed. To be honest the most annoying thing would be the constant "we will let you know when we do" and "We are waiting for answers from HQ" BS.

Unfortunately if that's how MSI are going to treat their customers maybe its time to go back to the retailer and state they have sold an item under false pretenses. I know its not the retailers problem but they have to check the products they are selling are as described not just copy/paste the details from the manufacturers website to theirs. The retailer should be able to put more pressure on the manufacturer as holding payments or orders for new stock till it gets sorted or choosing not to sell their products anymore can be a great motivator.

And I dnt get why they value our laptops.... They should only value your chosen gfx and what it should cost as an MXM Upgrade

Grrrrr they ***

**ing settlement agreement either if it gets that far

Also, you can see on ebay the values of 980m's being sold previous, £360, £375, £320 etc. Just more credible than a current listing.

Great thread, got a friend looking at buying a new gaming laptop, we'll be striking the MSI one off the list! :p

I'll also ensure we don't buy anymore MSI hardware for future builds as well... The service to date reading this thread has been appalling.

Yep, it's getting beyond a joke now.

I'm after a new 1080 gfx card and I won't be buying MSI.

Alas just bought a gaming laptop for my son, went Alienware, don't care if they cost more, Dell support is excellent!

Oh dear this makes some pretty grim reading. Not that it surprises me, I made the mistake of buying an MSI gt laptop a few years back and after an appalling experience with build quality and support I ended up venting my frustrations on the machine and smashing it up (mature of me I know). After that I bought Clevo and have never looked back. I certainly wouldn't buy MSI again that's for sure.

I wish you all the best with getting an acceptable resolution.

Sounds to me like MSI messed up (for want of a better set of words) big time on this one and instead of taking it on the chin and sorting their customers out they insist on trying to wriggle out of it while trying to make a PROFIT.

They just look worse for this and the money it might've cost MSI (if any at all) to just do a fair upgrade program, one that reflects their mistake, would be offset by business made by people choosing their next purchase and seeing MSI's good CS etc. For them to be fair, reflecting on THEIR mistake would have been worth ten promotions/advertisements worth in money and sales.

Good CS is everything to buyers nowadays.

Pretty poor this.

Poor show by the MSI reps too. Seems a bit of a shambles.

I've also sent an email to the MSI CEO and referenced this thread more than a week ago, not a response from them, they couldn't are less if you ask me.

Thinking about a gaming laptop purchase in Florida when I go in 4 weeks and having read this thread it will not be Msi. Bought a lot of Msi in the past but this is poor. Would have liked to have bought one in the UK but the prices are shocking!

What a sad state of affairs.

Situations like this put people off a company for life, plus most will choose to dissuade others from buying from that manufacture because of the poor service resolution.
Conversely, if it is handled well people can't stop telling people about how valued they feel and how much they respect the efforts of the company.

It's particularly galling that your complaints have fallen on deaf ears! A lot of people won't complain for whatever reason, but you would have thought that any company would go all out to make a complaining customer happy because the reality is they are the tip of the iceberg! Fixing it for them causes a domino effect of good word of mouth for the company.

I can't see a good resolution to this from what you have posted so far. Perhaps time to sell and buy something from a (hopefully!) better manufacture.
You could try to contact them one last time, offer a compromise you are willing to accept (if you can stomach a halfway deal) letting them know if they are unwilling to make good they will have lost a customer and your good word of mouth about them and their products.

Eventually it's all you can do, vote with your wallet and buy elsewhere sadly

yeah... I was looking at purchasing the sli 1080 MSI laptop but now I really wont consider it!

Me too, Clevo owner and very happy about it. I've owned a msi before, but won't be touching them again.
Poor show msi

I would avoid the msi tbh. try the new gigabyte aorus out it looks good.

Oh and thanks for the thread MiSJAH, you've helped me to at least exclude MSI from my impending gaming laptop purchase. I'm not really into the upgrade thing on my laptops but companies that treat their customers with such contempt don't deserve to be in business and won't be getting my cash.

Yeah, I was looking at Msi laptops but after reading this I think I will go with Gigabyte again. Gigabyte support was great when I had my p35x, they replaced an 18 month old battery free of charge even though the battery only has a year warranty. Only 100 quid but it was a nice touch.

MSI laptops aren't everyman and their dog laptops like Dell and Lenovo, these are niche machines targeted at a specific group; a group that for the most part, makes a more informed decision before purchase, so I can see (and rightly so) this affecting them. I would never purchase an msi product now. At the very least they could admit the mistake and release an apology, but no.

This is not an upgrade path, this is a minor discount on a new laptop.

these prices (if accurate) are outrageous. this looks like it should end in a lawsuit for not honouring original upgrade / purchase agreements.

I say 'looks like' as these deals are aimed at the enthusiast market, and we all know that market is too small to make waves if any issues arise

I wish you guys all the best

It's not cost effective for MSI they won't make much if anything from doing it. Tbh the whole idea was nothing more than a sales pitch that was never going to be an option.

I bought an MSI GS60 Stealth a few years ago, and was thinking of an upgrade. Came here to what was around. I love my MSI and was pretty much set on a new one.

After reading this thread, not a chance. Companies need to understand behaviour like this costs them more than they are trying to save. Enthusiast repeat customers are worth more than this.

I hope the MSI rep on here continues to see these posts and passes the feedback (and repeat sales loss) on.
