Don't forget chaps... check down below occasionally

Sorry for the hijack @Hades but any of you gents go to get your prostate checked? Why did you go and what was it like? Not looking medical advice but something I've been thinking about.
I will second @Scuzi about the inspection. I later had to have a biopsy and then a targeted one for which I was sedated. However I expect most will just have the inspection followed by normal PSA levels. It's all well worth doing certainly by retirement which is when I was first tested or when symptoms are suspected.

Congrats on the all-clear :)

Monday This Week

Luckily I have private medical insurance through my employer. So I managed to get a very quick appointment on Monday (the equivalent NHS appointment would take several weeks). The ultrasound technician confirmed straight away that he had found something. He also scanned my kidneys and lymph nodes and couldn't find anything obviously wrong.

So the moral of the story chaps, is check yourself down below regularly. It may just save your life one day.

Sorry, I realise this is an old post but this is worth correcting, the equivalent NHS appointment would not take you "several weeks". I've had this done on the NHS a few years ago and while I had insurance, I went to see my GP to ask about a referral and he told me that I'd be seen pretty quickly at the local hospital and sure enough I was.

For something like this, where cancer is a possibility, they aim to see you in 2 weeks I was told, I had it done within a week at my local hospital.

See here for details, if anyone has a lump then don't worry about whether you're insured or not (might vary post covid) but the guidelines are that you're supposed to be seen in 2 weeks:

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/testicular-cancer/diagnosis/
If you have a non-painful swelling or lump, or a change in the shape or texture of 1 of your testicles, and a GP thinks it may be cancerous, you'll be referred for further testing within 2 weeks.

Had it done as part of an investigation. No drama - finger up the backside and a bit of poking around. It is worth having it checked.

It’s the cystoscopy that you need to worry about :o

I had this done in hospital last year after being in for something completely unrelated... a junior doctor came in and was asking a whole bunch of questions about medical history etc... then was like randomly, "do you mind if I examine you"... I said "year sure" and moments later some other bloke comes into the room to supervise and she's got the gloves on, sticking a finger up my bum etc..

To reinforce this, I have private medical cover but they said the NHS would be just as quick as meeting a two week referral and I was seen within that window.

On going to see a doctor for anything like this, just go! Doctors have seen all this before and couldn’t care less about what size / shape you are and you could just save your life

Sorry for the bump but I wanted to say thank you to @Hades - this thread made me check myself and long story short I am booked in for a orchidectomy in a week or so. Check yourselves guys (and girls, check you guys), much better to find it early
Really glad this thread has been useful and you found it. You have a bit of a journey ahead but everything will OK. Good luck, you will be fine!
