I guess it could be annoying if you dislike the person you're talking to, or it's really early and just literally arrived at work and need your coffee, but other than that, yeah i'm just as confused as you

It's normally the first thing i speak about. It just breaks the ice - even with friends - and you can chat about what you did, what they did and so on.

I will say how boring my weekend was and my friend will tell me all about her holiday in Jamaica.

I would prefer that people ask inane questions rather than say nothing.

There is a girl at work who sits next to me, I am lucky if I got one sentence out of her all day.

I usually answer with "yeah it was all right" or "same old..". Then end the conversation there. No point in pretending to be interested.
