I was copying as I thought id leave it on the disk as a last resort backup. The drive clunked mid copying, a failed write occurred and the disk disappeared and has not been recognised since.

i'd imagine recovery software would only work if the drive actually showed some signs of life lol

So it doesn't even show as an malfunctioning device in device manager or as unpartitioned space in disk management?

Don't you have more than one copy of important files? I have 3 copies of my pics and any other files I couldn't replace..

I have copies of my docs and vids and my bro has pretty much the same music collection so ive only really lost a few photos and a folder that had desktop pictures in, so seems i've been pretty lucky.
