It's not one I would recommend if you get motion sick easily. I'm usually pretty good in VR but I really struggled with Doom. Probably the closest I've come to actually being sick. The game plays great though if you can get over that.

I second the motion sickness. Only 2 games have got me so far and this was the worst. Had to stop about 15 mins in. Even though I can play other games fine for hours.

Step 1 install the BFG edition
Step 2 install the HD texture pack found here
Step 3 install latest VR mod from here
Step 4 install Doom 3 BFG VR: Fully Possessed V0.020 Alpha mod from here
Step 5 disable this. From the console ( press ~ to open console ) type: vr_talkWakeMonsters 0 Then press enter. This will prevent voice commands from waking monsters.
Step 6 Have fun

Is it necessary to disable voice commands from waking monsters? Ie does the mod work by leveraging voice commands, or is that just your preference because you like to talk to the sleeping monsters?

I defintely want to give this a go, but probably not until I replace this r9-295x2.

From the github page it says "Voice commands are supported - say a weapon name to select it!" so I'm not sure if they are enabled or disabled by default, or even if there is an option to turn them on and off. But I saw lots of people saying this waking monsters thing was an issue, which is why I included it. I'm yet to test this myself though.

What is the HD texture pack like? I do not have that installed and I run at 1.50 texture resolution and it looks good and runs great. Just worried the HD textures might spoil frame rates.

I've not disabled voice commands yet, I wasnt sure what it was all about.

I've not yet got round to trying it out myself, but according to reddit the HD texture pack makes it look drastically more detailed and should be fine on a 1070.
If performance is bad make sure Vsync is OFF in game AND in the Nvidia control panel. Also try turning soft shadows OFF in the in game graphics options.
