Howdy =)

Has anyone played Doom3 recently? Just installed it as I fancy playing through it again, and I'd like y'all to recommend some mods!

There's a million kajillion mods, so someone must know which are the best of the best :)

Just play it as is. If you use mods to get the flashlight all the time, it ruins the experience.

And the addon pack is pretty good as well. I absolutely loved Doom 3, and i'm probably in the minority but I think it knocked HL2 into a cocked hat.

with you on that, HL2 was poor, doom 3 was brilliant, though most people say im an idiot and i don't know a good game when i say that, was better in everyway :) also the addon is cool, the grabber is neat to give hell knights a taste of there own medicine

I liked it generally but it got a whole lot better when you got the Soul Cube. I love playing with that weapon. Best weapon, ever!

Agreed, i had very high expectations of both games and only 1 delivered

Yep, D3 had great atmosphere.. really kept you on your toes :)

Doom3 was rubbish, Half Life-2 was brilliant. The annoying "walk around in pitch black with a gun or have light and be defenceless then something jumps out at you" was bloody annoying

Doom 3 was good while it lasted, albeit a touch too 'on rails'. Quake 4 was better.

Never got into doom3, just didnt entertain me, HL2 on the other hand did, and i found it amusing etc. HL2 is just more of a mainstream game :)
Quake4 though, definately agree with you here, definately enjoyed more than D3, i may have even enjoyed it more than hl2, i loved the story etc!

I know every single person on this board is entitled to their own opinion, and I respect that, but in every single possible way Half-Life 2 was the better game. From a technical to a gameplay point of view, Doom just doesn't factor.

I just didn't find Half-Life 2 immersive at all, whereas Doom 3 grabs me and pulls me in.

It just does everything it tries to do so much better than Half-Life 2 does.

in your opinion.

Tbh Doom got very very repetitive and boring later though, HL2 changed all the way through which pulls it IMO, although I agree HL2 (and 1) are overrated.
Quake 4 was undoubtedly better than D3, at least it added some variation.

Meh, would have been nice to leave Stroggos for a bit... like in Quake 2. But yeah, really enjoyed Quake 4. I walked into GAME and there it was, on the shelf... I had no idea it was even being developed. I have no idea how I missed following it's development!

The whole torch or gun thing was really cheap. This is a futuristic marine, but he can't find a rifle with a light attachment, can't find something to tie or stick a gun and torch together and can't even hold two at once... Just a cheap way to make the game scarier.
