I know every single person on this board is entitled to their own opinion, and I respect that, but in every single possible way Half-Life 2 was the better game. From a technical to a gameplay point of view, Doom just doesn't factor.
HL2 didn't interest me in the slightest, and neither did its predecessor. All of its mods have me hooked, however.
It's not as if I didn't give the games a chance, but they never pulled me in. Maybe the problem is that I am trying to get the same experience everyone else gets and in the process I get disappointed...

That said, Doom3 had me hooked from the start, and that game I did complete, like its predecessors :) ;)

Well I enjoyed Doom 3 and HL2 altho HL2 was the better game for me. I found quake poor, linear, boring and lacking in any kind of story. o yer, and the guns were rubish. Its safe to say I didnt enjoy it.

They're all still not a patch on System Shock 2 ;)

I remember being annoyed at Doom 3 as it meant that I had to turn down the overclock on my uber 9800pro :*(

Personally I loved Doom 3 and HL2 but for 2 completely different reasons.

HL2 seemed a lot more open ended even though it was very linear when you look back on it. Some of the physics puzzles kept me entertained and the whole storyline mixed with completely different environments + the grav gun antics kept me hooked.

Doom 3 takes a completely different approach where its all purely about atmosphere and cheap jumps lol. You have to play it properly though to get the most out of the game. Dark room, lights off, good speakers/headphones on loud and stick it on very hard (so you get more enemies and more variety of enemies on every level) and you have a very tense game.

Watching my dad play both and completing both myself still makes me think neither is a better game, just both have their own plus points and down sides.

Is there a LAN co-operative mod for the game? i.e. Two networked people can play through the SP portion of the game by themselves? Thought i remembered hearing about it a while back. :o

ive had it for a few months now and not bothered to install it...was playing oblivion, and now im onto WOW so might install it soon just for something a bit different :)
