Doom what a game :D

PCGamer released a Performance benchmark, @1440p my 290 handles High setting best, Ultra kills performance too much I honestly don't see any difference anyway.

Nvidia kills it @1080p but AMD takes the lead at higher resolutions. Am very interested in trying Vulkan API in this, I could do with extra performance, its a pain though I know its coming but I also want to keep playing. Hope this patch comes fast.

It's very clear from each I HAV's website who cares about Vulkan more., just like OpenGL

How? Amd has been full support for Vulkan API even releasing driver support with timely fashion.
Just because nvidia has showcased a game running on Vulkan that makes then care more? Lol you make me laugh.

Amd is full support for low level API, not just directx 12 or mantle but all.
Only thing I can agree with you is OpenGL but they seem well recently.

Nvidia beat AMD to a compliant driver.

And? What really matter is that AMD released the driver before a game is ready.

Nvidia website has a lot of developer support, example code, resources and advice.

And?? AMD also doing there Bit

Nvidia is actively working with developers to support Vulkan.

And am Sure AMD is also working With them getting solid drivers and game support.
Or do you have solid Proof AMD isn't working with anyone? After All AMD started Vulkan With Mantle API And dont start with it was already coming because OpenGL Next!! That was just a place holder naming.
Khronos has openly Thanked AMD for kicking Vulkan off, so why would something AMD started off be now doing nothing?

Nvidia supports linux much more than AMD, and vulkan is most important as a Linux DX12 replacement.

True, But we not talking about Linux here are we? With Vulkan out and running well I have no doubt AMDs Linus support will be much better.

IMO, AMD is just plain behind at this point. And IMO, vulkan will follow openGL very closely. I live to be shown wrong but I doubt it

Fair enough this your view on the matter, its also my view.. unless you have proof just becasue Nvidia showcased the first game released doesn't mean jack

AMD has shown and talked a lot about Vulkan

AMD needs a 1st day driver for Doom.
and on the topic of vulkan, i hope Doom would be the real proof of concept that shows some great perf equal or better than DX, if this happens maybe Devs will be more confident using it, talos was a quicky one Dev show.
they have much more to gain with Vulkan windows than linux, compatible through multiple iterations of windows and platforms, they just need to man up and adopt it, AMD usualy need a significant user base to justify stretching their already thin resources, if Devs start making games with vulkan or re-releasing Vulkan ports, AMD will get right on the vulkan train.
all goes back to game developers, if they make games for it, vendors will have better drivers, and software will follow, if they dont we will have openGL scenario again, but this time around i think vulkan have the performance and simplicity opengl lacked.

FYI amd releases there day one driver before nvidia.

http://richg42.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/the-truth-on-opengl-driver-quality.html Seems to indicate that AMD (sorry, vendor B ;) ) cannot even get the basics right without breaking stuff, never mind the extensions.

The Dolphin devs are not too happy with them either. https://dolphin-emu.org/blog/2013/09/26/dolphin-emulator-and-opengl-drivers-hall-fameshame/

Don't matter on Windows directx 12 and 11 work perfectly played through couple classic games :D
I believe amd knew Vulkan API was coming and just choose not to put enough time into OpenGL.
But in saying that I haven't had any problems with openGL on Windows games.

Knew Vulkan was coming for like the past 10 years? :D

Also along the lines Linux isn't worth the time and money. Not yet anyway.
Amd openGL driver on Windows is fine from my gaming played Rage, Doom wolfenstein etc

So I would say mixture of Linux not worth it and then knowing Vulkan is coming.
The question I have to ask is how friendly is Vulkan API code going from windows to Linux? Can devs just easy transfer what they already working on?

Linux not worth it! Well that is one way to loose customers.

From Gaming point of view it isn't.. Why waste time and effort to a platform with no games?
Things are now changing, SteamOS is coming and now it makes sense for AMD to start caring about Linux again. Vukan will help here.

Before all SteamOS what did Linux offer for gamers?? Nothing!!

I didn’t say it wouldn’t benefit AMD. I asked why would it even the playing field. Any advantage AMD get so do NVidia. Yes Vulkan was based on Mantle but Vulkan is not Mantle and far different from what Mantel was. I wasn’t aware AMD had poor OpenGL performance in comparisons to NVidia. I thought AMD had decent OpenGL performance so the playing field stays the same when swapping to Vulkan.

AMDs OpenGl performance issues are mostly Linux based. There OpenGL windows performance is good.
Rage, Doom and Wolfenstein all played great for me.

According to posts there is something wrong with the drivers with the 290X/390X that causes massive slowdowns with shadows in some situations or something.

EDIT: Something on reddit about it https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/4j3t1w/doom_performance_is_doomed/ not really looked into it though.

Nothing wrong here. 290 though can't see the X version being any difference.
I just think people are expecting to much, for example @1440p ultra frame rate just isn't worth it. But @1080p it's more than enough.
So on my system it's either 1440p @high or 1080p @ultra.

Nah there is something wrong - some people have been running 980, 380X and 290X through the same bit with the 290X dropping to half the performance of the other 2 in places.

Not sure unless the 290x is doing something different than the stand 290 I have no idea.
But I can safely say on my system performance is right where I expect it.
