hey guys,

i noticed while playing DOOM my FPS is capped at exactly 144 FPS, is that because i have a 144hz monitor (which it is currently set to also), as it seems an odd number and too unlikely to be coincidence?

my monitor is a AOC freesync 144hz G2460PF model. and yes i know it was designed for a AMD card but went Nvidia route now...and its still a great monitor.

I didn't ask that lol in game settings do you have Vsync enabled or inside Nvidia control panel Vsync enabled.

Not talking about Freesync or Gsync here :D

sorry for being a total noob, but what does the Vsync actually do for games?

It's old school way of removing screen tear by sync the frame rate to the monitor max refresh rate.
The issue with vsync is it adds extra input lag and frame judder.
This is why we now have Freesync and Gsync. These fix the input lag and juddering and at same time remove screen tear.
