Doom's 30th Anniversary

30 years on! I remember downloading the original shareware version off a bulletin board back then. I was one of those who was lucky enough to not have to wait for one of the magazines to put it on a cover disk.

Wow. I can't believe it is 30 years old now. If I close my eyes I can still vividly see that first level and hear all the weapons.

I remember those days well … couldn’t run it on my 386SX as it needed a maths co-processor and 4mb of ram to run. So instead ran it on my dad’s 486 laptop with 4mb ram … happy days.

Still remember the first time I saw it on a friends PC with a 100mhz Pentium. Looking at the dates this would have been '94 and then in '95 I think I was on a 133mhz for Sim City 2000. This was also around the time of Cannon Fodder, which another friend and his brother were hooked on.

The younger generation have some absolute gems to look back on in years to come. Just marvel at that heady hit of nostalgia they'll get around now in say twenty years, looking back upon their time spent playing The Day Before. Yes, all of 10 minutes worth.

Loosely related, I remember MTUSpeed Pro getting more downloads than one of the Quake demos. Cannot remember which demo but I wrote MTUSpeed Pro. :)

Happy memories. Got it on floppy disc to play on my 486 DX 33 MHz. I remember installing it on the college computers, only managed 5 minutes before the tutor told us off and made us delete it.
Iddqd and idkfa are forever burned into my Psych.

Now you can run the game on a calculator.

It doesn't feel right though.

Because Half Life was 25 years ago, so there is only 5 years in it, yet feels like Doom was much older.

Shows you how fast games were progressing back then.

Doom was good, but Half Life was by far the most groundbreaking imo.

Quake 2 was pretty good as well, although that was 4 years after Doom.

The first XCOM game was 1994 so one year after Doom.

Original Syndicate 1993.....
