Hello - entry 2 in my series of “help I’m a manchild” :o

We are redecorating our kitchen and quite like the look of this.

Love the black cabinets and skirting boards.

In our kitchen, we have a door with a door frame. Presumably, it makes sense that the door frame should be the same colour as the skirting - black... and perhaps the door. But I’m thinking how this is going to look from the other side of the door, which currently has a white door frame and a white skirting board. The hallway also has another door within a few metres. It wasn’t the intention that we had black skirting throughout the whole house, but we don’t want our eyes to bleed every time we go through the door / hallway :p

Yes beauty is in the eye of the beholder etc but if we are going with the black skirting in the kitchen what makes the most sense here:

(A) Keep the door and door frame white / neutral. Away with your black monstrosity!

(B) Paint the door frame black kitchen side only, leave the door white.

(C) Paint the door frame black kitchen side only, paint the door black.

(D) Paint the door and frame black both sides, have white skirting for the remainder of the hall. Embrace the headache!!!

Thanks for your input and sorry for the crap thread :o

Paint, skirtings, architraves.

If the door opens into the kitchen paint the edges black and the frame up to door stop then when you look from corridor with the door shut it'll be white and from the kitchen you'll see black including the gaps. If the door opens the other way reverse it all.

Yeah I suppose it’s a case of ‘stopping’ the black so that it’s only white from one side and only black on the other. In reality the door is almost never closed so we’ll use our best judgement as to when we stop the black and can just get over any contrast.

Sell the house...start from scratch ;)
With my incompetence and inability to make a simple decorating decision, probably :)

LOL

If the door is open mostly...that makes it difficult...almost have to try things and see...does the door open into the kitchen? Maybe paint it black in that case as it would be in the kitchen...

Maybe take some photos and Photoshop them...

this is my door frame in a bathroom painted railings with the inside and outside white

I did do another coat with a neater edge after this. Sorry I couldn't be bothered turning it around

I would not bother painting the door/architrave black myself.

I have an anthracite/grey/white themed kitchen going in, it's not done yet. I reckon those units are probably anthracite which is a v dark grey, it looks less dark than my pic in real life. Left wall cab is going back up tomorrow once I've fixed the wall, previous wall cab was siliconed to the wall :P

By keeping the walls and stuff white, the anthracite is nicely set off. My flooring is arriving tomorrow (https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Stone-Mix-Silver-Porcelain-Tile-600-x-400mm/p/143059).
