Scenario:

Parents on holiday in California for 2 weeks. So my sister is at home alone.

This morning I got a phone call from my little sister saying shes broken a door. I assume this was during a party or whatever 16 year olds get up to.

So anyway I've driven down to have a look at it, and the door is totally knackered. Luckily its a door that can be bought from Focus/B&Q etc and relatively common. My problem is hanging it.

I havent a clue, I dont think its something I can do myself and my dad has high standards / eyes like a hawk. Ive promised to sort this out for her so I'm going to get a door on Monday/Tuesday and then arrange for a joiner to come and fit it.

What kind of prices will a joiner charge to hang a door? Also do you think its feasible to have it done before a week today (Next Saturday)?

Comments, laughter and suggestions will be much appreciated.

Humm, Ive got a few friends who are in trades. But I don't really want to involve them. One of them knows my Dad quite well :/

I feel sorry for my sister, because I know my Dad will not be happy. So im being a nice older brother and helping her out.

Let her sort it out herself. Of course, if this means offering herself to tradesmen as means of payment, you may not be happy with this.

Shes too young to sort it out really, Im feeling generous.

atpbx I might buy one and have a look at it on Monday, when im off. Had planned to do other things but never mind.

If I dont think I can do a good job ill get a carpenter. 15/20 quid a door sounds ok. Thanks for that Gav

Raymond Lin, I know what you are saying but I know what my Dads like and she works hard enough to keep him happy. Shes paying, Im just helping her out. Im sure she wont take the biscuit.

If you say your dad has eyes like a hawk I'm sure he'll spot it's a new door never mind it being hung slightly different.

Aye, but the house is only 10 years old. The doors all look mint anyway.

Tell your dad? Whats he going to do, beat her up?

No, but he wont pay for her car insurance in a few weeks time when she turns 17.

She works really hard at school, Im proud to have her as a sister. She deserves to be able to drive the car. Just she needs to learn some common sense :p

Just so you know. ;) It might be harder than you think to get one over on old hawk eyes. :D

LOL, its a 4 large 2 small panel white door. The ones here are almost pristine white. So I guess it wont look as bad as say, a badly hung or repaired door.

If he does find out, Well Ive tried my best.

Don't tell that to your sis though, tell her they cost about £100 each & are dead hard to fix. :p

I was thinking of £50 :)

Trouble is, her mates dad told her they only cost about £15 and not to worry! :(
