DOS PC for Stepdad.

I'd go the pre-built system way too. Finding old parts that are around 20 years old and messing with compatibility is one headache I could do without.

Some good games back then but most are better left in memory.

all this talk of config files & IRQ's makes me think that maybe I'm not the only old git on this board :D

Here is a page full of spectrum games, no doubt some of you will remember a good few of these :)

Ah what memories... IRQ conflicts, BSODs and &*£$*^£! SoundBlaster problems... :( :( :(

Glad that's all in the past. :D

I do miss the P2 and P3 chips though, shame the heat generated by modern CPUs makes a cartridge type system impractical.

This thread is stirring up some nostalgia for quite a few people :)

Any way to run DOS on a raspberry pi? Scary to think those are way more powerful than a full sized PC from that era :D

Saying that, I do seem to remember shouting a lot over IRQ conflict problems in Windows 9x. :p

Indeed, trying to get 2 sound-cards to run for PCDJ was always a nightmare with IRQ conflicts in win98, to utilize an external mixer required two sound-cards and would always conflict on IRQ's or memory spaces, especially with a soundblaster 4th gen ISA and a sounblaster 5th gen PCI
Happy days!
