But yeh I wouldn't get too upset over not being in the beta, I'm happy I'm in and deffo worth what I payed, but really most games basically turn into 'who has the least LoL players' right now there is no sort of stat tracking I've witnessed so you get the pros mixed in with some real bad players, makes for interesting games.

I don't want it to feel/play like LoL, the whole pacing of the game feels dreadfully slow and sluggish.
eh? if you think LOL feels like the pacing is slow your going to love playing dota 2 , its like playing lol in slow motion with 2-3x as long cooldowns

Well if it is like HoN the pacing will be perfect for me. LoL base movement speed alone feels like slow motion, maybe its the way the animations are, looks/feels awful to me.

It's slightly slower than HoN, theres a deliberate delay on animations of 50ms, which is noticable, plus some things simply arnt animated which gives the impression of it feeling slow when it isnt. Mirana/Valk is a decent example, his Q skill is simply lacking animation right now, so you press Q and nothing appears to happen for a split second, in reality the pace is exctly the same as HoN but because there's no animation it feels slower at first. You get used to it quickly though but your first game will feel strange just because the camera control will be different, movement will be different e.t.c. I had some issues last hitting well for quite a few early games but im getting a lot better at that now. Early on the attack animations are a lot slower than in HoN.

It's not as bad as LoL thankfully ^^

I got a invite today, it didn't show up on steam on a secondary harddrive so I had to reinstall steam on my SSD.

Lucky sod! Think I have signed up for a key everywhere i can find one! Still no joy yet!

My email has never before been checked so frequently! :)

Man apparently theres been multiple waves of invites now, I have been signed up for beta since it was possible, and been a DOTA player for since I was 5 years, and I still haven't got one. What gives? Actually considering trying LoL :O

If anyone has a spare invite I would greatly appreciate it.

Or use trust.

someone explain this game to me as it looks nice.

is it teamplay only?

  • Dota 2 composes of 2 teams, The Dire and The Radiant.
  • Each team has 5 players.
  • Each player can choose a hero to control, the power of the hero you choose is based on economics. Gold & Experience (exp).
  • Gold is gathered through killing creatures (creeps) that spawn for each team in 3 lanes. Gold can also be gathered by killing enemies buildings and heroes.
  • Experience is gathered by staying within range of a creep or hero kill.
  • Much like an RPG, you gain levels and a skillpoint to spend. Each hero usually has their own unique 4 skills.
  • With the gold accumulated you can buy items that buff stats or gives a unique bonus.
  • There are several different heroes with different roles, they include:-
    Carry - Damage dealer.
Ganker - This hero roams from different lanes denying exp/gold and trying to get kills.
Supporter - This hero focuses on improving the skills and performance of your team.
There are several other sub-roles but these 3 are the main roles.

If you need any-more info then feel free to ask. :P

Also might be worth giving (HoN) Heroes of Newerth a go or maybe (LoL) League of legends.

These are "similar" style games and both are free to play.

HoN is closer to Dota 2 than lol though.

I've been playing this with a friend, we've played three practice games together... and get our butts handed to us by the AI every single time. We're always between Lv 10-15 when the AI's up around Lv20 by the time they win. We're not completely new to the genre, we play lots of Demigod, but obviously this is a completely different game. Any tips for complete DotA2 newbies? :D

Don't feed, get good at landing killing blows, deny the enemy killing blows and minimise time away from the lanes. The only decent reason to be leaving a lane is to go gank someone.

enjoying pudge :) have to say the interface of the menu and in game really need to be improved , the shop is really bad

Keys are few and far between it seems :(

Playdota forums is worth a try, some lucky people run their own competitions with spare keys. They are also being sold on there if you are that desperate but be careful as lot of people have been scammed.

I'm patiently waiting and in hope that valve will be kind and bless me with a key! No luck so far. I believe the valve email goes out at 12:00 each day so check your email around then.

Thank god for ToR this weekend to keep my mind of it! :)

You can’t sell on open forum only MM and if the invites are giving out free what’s with the £10 lol?

Don’t either think the MM mods will let you sell them as your selling them to make profit which breaks the MM rules anyhow
