Double-DIN Head Unit Suggestions

What have you found screen wise which is quite interesting? :)

Basically a touch screen (USB?) with VGA input that takes up a DIN space.

Was thinking if i could build a PC to fit in the DIN space beneath i'd be laughing...

Comes to about £220 btw

Looks good, perhaps a glovebox pc instead ;)

Celicas aren't renowned for their space, but could be an option...

(I have this unused "below drivers elbow" cubby hole that could be an idea tho... need to think hard on this one.

Also found this as a PC Case - Mini-ITX could possibly live under the seat...

EDIT: How do i wire the sound up?

Was thinking if the PC was elsewhere i could have a standard CD Headunit, with Aux-in and wire the aduio from the onboard sound to that? Might be an option as that way i could control audio settings directly from dash...

this is coming together (and probably coming to more than a grand lol!)

You could simply send the sound straight from the sound card of the PC to an amplifier and control the volume from windows :) if you used a good sound card then they come with nice onscreen volume controls and graphic equalisers etc

Cheers jez,

reading back i've realised you've suggested the exact thing i have eureka moments on 3 posts after you said. Doh!

Dont really want to go down the amplifier route just yet, which is why the 2nd headunit would be good fo radio/quick CD play etc...

Hhmm.... :)

Yeah i'd probably go the headunit route too at least at first until i adjusted, as sometimes i am not in the gadget mood and would probably sometimes just want a simple radio :)

actually, may be swinging back towards the prebuilt solution. Damn Google!

Pioneer are doing the PIONEER AVIC-D1, which is exaclty what i wanted initially really...

gonna be about £800, but has 2 DVD Drives - one for planning, one for playing stuff...

Now i'm curious.....

Why would these be going on the bay for £220 delivered from HongKong?
I should avoid these right?? cos i'm tempted.

Post a link mate sounds similar to mine but with it all in a double din, don't forget Shipping + tax on imports + check the seller out etc, Jap radios might not work in the UK.

I believe these might be scam, the AVIC X1R was one of the top scammed items on ebay last year apparently.

I've also got an X1R like Firestar_3x and recommended it no end, I've used a lot of different SatNav solutions and without doubt I'd say this is my favourite. That double din unit does look rather tasty.
