Dover Ferry Queues

So, people stuck in 6 hour+ queues to get on a ferry to France. I dont understand where the delay is and "our side" appear to be blaming the French.

I have not used a ferry for about 40 years and don't recall the process, if the queue/tailback is on our side how is it a French problem? Do the French control the docking on this side?

Anyone more knowledgeable on it?

Ah, that explains it then.

French basically understaffed it/not turned up? Coupled with the extra Brexit paperwork/checks I guess?

French are blaming a 1 hour delay in manning the booths fully due to an incident in the tunnel, rather than understaffing/bad planning. Seems weak.

That seems to be partly to blame yes. I was unaware of the French passport controls being this side. Have not used a ferry for a long time.
