Downgrading to 7950.

I didn't know there was only 2 games in existence.

read the whole review, it makes very little difference in any of the games tested - where it does it's older games where we are talking the difference between 80FPS and 120FPS which is a pointless comparison anyway, unless the OP is running 120hz monitor which he isn't

6 games tested, 2 older games you get a 10-20% increase (but at FPS' so high it doesn't make a useful difference) and the other 4 newer games it makes 1-2fps difference going from a phenom X4, or even an Athlon X4 to a 2700K Overclocked

So what are you guys saying? That upgrading my cpu now for gaming purposes is pointless because of the minimal gains i would see going from a phenom 955 BE at 3.8 to say something like an i5 2500k at 4.5?

If that's true then i'm stuck because i dont want to spend that amount of money on something that's going to give me so little gain! I'm not upto date with the whole intel and AMD thing in gaming so correct me if i'm reading wrong.

P.s i've decided to stick with my 680 unless i get a really nice offer for it. Will be purchasing a new waterblock next week aswel.

sell the 680 for 380, get a second hand 7970 for 280, save 100 quid and get pretty much the same performance.

Link? can't find a 680 - CPU scaling review but 7970 is not a whole world of difference:

wow like 2FPS difference!!! I'll rush out and spend that £300 for 2 FPS, yes please!
Yea yea...because people care about how BF3 perform on single player mission.

BF3 multiplayer is much more CPU intensive...and using single player campaign to represent it is quite frankly...a joke.

My mate's i3 2120 (which is on par with Phenom II X4 at 3.8GHz on gaming performance) would bottleneck his GTX560Ti 2GB (overclocked 950MHz) on BF3 multiplayer. Without MSAA, GPU is not getting close to 100% usage and is usually at around 80% usage max despite the frame rate is not hitting 60fps, while the CPU is under 100% load across the 4 threads (2 cores, 2 Hyper-Thread).

If anyone want to have frame rate at consistantly above 50fps in CPU demanding games or BF3 multiplayer and to not dip below 40fps, then they must move on from the aged Phenom II X4 and Core2 platform.
