I've always been happy with my VM download and always hit max speed but recently, no matter what browser I'm in, my web pages are slow to load.

If I go on a page with lots of pictures it will take ages before my browser is given back to me and sometimes I see 'not responding' come up.

Even the front page of OCUK takes a few seconds before my mouse works.

Any idea what's going on?

Is it the same for all devices in the house? Also, a slow upload speed can affect how fast content is downloaded because it will affect your response times.

i think this is something to do with the ports as the HTTP port is the port for web browsing which, you can imagine, is the most used one on a network and so would work the slowest

the port for downloading a file would usually be quicker, but i dont know if there is a way of getting a browser to use a different port to avoid congested ports

then again, i read this YEARS ago, so it may all be wrong by now :p

It's fine on my ASUS Transformer and a laptop

Hmm. Tried a different ethernet port? Although I don't think that'll do anything. Do you run any anti-virus or anti-malware software which may be scanning the page before allowing you to view it? Try and disable all browser plugins and temporarily disable your AV/AM (if you have one) to see if that's what is causing it.

I would've suggested Google's DNS servers, but it's fine for his Asus and laptop, so surely they'd be using the same DNS servers as his computer?

take a look at task manager just before and during loading the page, any high spikes?

also try a linux live cd (lets u boot to linux froma cd no install needed and wont touch ur hard drive) these have a simple browser. if it still goes slow then its hardware/isp
