Download Limits for BT

Hey all,

I'm moving from NTL as you can't set up a LAN with them for some reason. I definitely want BT, and the homehub, although I am worried about the 6GB download limit on Option 2.

I use my connection for gaming mostly, particularily MMO's. Do these count towards the download limit? And would the 6GB limit be a problem? I am on my PC most nights for about 2 hours.

I don't download many things at all, the occasional patch or update.

Thanks.

How do you think all the student's in Manchester and other NTL share their connections?

I'd imagine with a router, the same as any other NTL user that wants to share their connection, which is exactly what I said...

You can't actually network them; i've had a guy who is an expert on networks come in and try to set one up and it still wouldn't work.

Can anyone recommend me an ISP that provides their own wireless routers?

Was an ASUS router/modem (wireless), didn't come with any software. Is the software needed? (I am a total noob so please forgive me).

And would BT's 6gb limit impinge on my MMO playing?

I got a refund for the router, and i am on an ADSL connection.

if 6gb is adequate then I'll get bt broadband, bearing in mind i play for about 2 hours a night.

With respect, your "expert" probably didn't know what he was doing or had the wrong kit.

Take the lan port of the cable modem and hook up to a switch, configure all your pcs with the same subnet as the lan port on the router, then configure the default gateway to be the routers lan ip address. Might have to configure DNS servers manually too, but you can get that info from the router too.

Piece of the proverbial wee wee.

So you're on NTL Freedom?
Still no reason you can't share it...

yep, and I've tried everything, it's just too stressful. I set up BT broadband for a mate and it was dead easy, so I want that tbh. Just want to know if the 6gb bandwidth limit is a problem tbh.

Stick username and password into router. Connect router to phone line. Job done.
it's no harder (or stressful) than BT or any other ADSL ISP, and your expert was clearly an idiot.

Install DUMeter or Netlimiter or something and see how much you use. Worst comes to the worst, you should be able to upgrade if it isn't enough.
