Download Speed Drops to <1Mb when Desktop Computer is on?!

Obviously there is a way to get between the router and your PC because you walk there and back. Just buy a cable that is as long as your walk between the two items, plug it in, do some tests for an hour and then take the cable back out again once you've narrowed the issue down. I don't know why you're making this so difficult for yourself.

You've had this problem for two weeks now, and haven't managed one of the first troubleshooting steps that was suggested.

Hey Guys,

I recently spent almost £1500 on a kick-ass gaming setup, however the last two weeks I've had massive problems with the internet connection and speed on this new system...

I have Sky Fiber Optic broadband, and when my desktop PC is switched off (or disconnected from the network) I get around 25-30 Mbps download speed on my laptop and other devices. However, for the past two weeks as soon as I connect my desktop PC, my speed drops to less than 1mbps on the laptop, and even less on the desktop. The desktop also has connection issues, keeps dropping out or keep saying 'limited' or 'no internet connection'.

I think the issue may be spyware / malware, but have run Malwarebytes and Spybot S&D which haven't found anything major.

I don't think it's an issue with the router or wireless channel, etc. As it's all working find on other devices, until I connect my new system.

I have tried running CMD and typing netstat -o -n to see what process IDs are using bandwidth and found that a couple of PIDs show in CMD window but are not listed in task manager... Could these be hidden processes?

Any advice or help would be REALLY appreciated.

Many thanks,

If after running the antivirus and you find nothing the problem could be your internet card has a problem with it, I had the same problem on my laptop once after I replaced it with a new one it fixed all my problems

RESOLVED

Hi all,

So I've just purchased some Powerline adapters (only £20.00 at PC world at the moment - Thanks for the suggestion), and plugged straight in to PC. PERFECT - I'm now getting full speed! 30mbps+!

So although not a 'Fix' as I still have no idea why the wireless isn't working on a brand new Mobo having tried multiple cards / dongles, this is a resolution I'm more than happy to settle for :D

Thanks to everyone who contribution to the discussion!
