Download TV Shows and Movies onto your XBOX360

good call - i have NO intention of using XB1 games on my 360.

I would use it if it worked with more games and i didn't have to bugger about with cables trying to get this update and that update. i know i know, its not that much hassle, but it is a royal pain.

Regarding pricing, the video tutorial over at the Xbox site notes that HD movies will cost 480 MS points (US$ 6), while the standard definition version of the movie will cost only 320 MS points (US$ 4). As for television shows, either version of one episode would cost 240 MS points (US$ 3).

Very cheap for HD content. Only annoyance is that it alienates Core users who have no 20GB HDD as they won't be able to download. But they have the choice to buy the 20gb drive if they want.

but the HD movies are rental only are they not? so its still 4 quid to rent and who knows how long for? 3 views or 3 days like zune?? i'd much rather get a DVD off of screenselect or something tbh as i bet they will do HD-DVD and blu ray options soon.

According to Eurogamer.....

In the case of the film rentals, the files will stick around on the drive for two weeks, and delete themselves within 24 hours of viewing.

Sour grapes from Sony over Xbox 360 digital downloads

Sony have responded bitterly to Microsoft's TV and movie download service which is due to launch on November 22nd.

It's no surprise that Sony are slightly peeved at the fact that the new digital download service will launch just 5 days after the PS3 hits shelves in the US, and as if that wasn't enough, Microsoft are also releasing one of the most anticipated games of the year, Gears Of War, on the PS3 launch date of November 17th, and have cheekily named the day as 'Emergence Day' in a blatant attempt to take some of the shine of Sony's big day.

Sony took the opportunity to have a dig at Microsoft's new service by saying, "PlayStation 3's content is designed for everyone to enjoy right out of the box, no matter which configuration you purchase. We would never shut anyone out of the entertainment experience because they didn't have the money to buy the top of the line system..."

The console war is heating up and there's no doubt that we can expect some harsh words flying back and forth over the coming weeks.

Oh of corse not, they only made the console so damn expensive you need to sell both your kidneys to get one

Just read this interview with Aaron Greenberg, XBOX’s Group Product Marketing Manager re: the Tv/Movie downloads.

http://www.gamersreports.com/article/40/

Fairly interesting read with a few new details I hadn't read yet.

He does confirm it is for USA only, initially (most people could have guessed this anyway due to the nature of TV show licensing etc).

The one bit that made me laugh I will quote here:

GR: I know you guys can’t talk about future products, but are you guys working on something so that existing users can get a bigger drive without having to get rid of any game saves, demos or other content?

Greenberg: You know what, I don’t know. At this point we’re not ready yet to roll out a bigger hard drive. I can tell you what people tell me they do to get around this. What they do is they put their Live account on a memory unit and then they have one hard drive that they put their games or related content on, and then they have another drive that they put their movies and TV on. So you know, this isn’t ideal, but there’s some ways to work around that today. If you download the content on one hard drive, and save your Live account on the memory unit, you can still have your hard drives hold all the content. That’s not a perfect workaround, but there’s some flexibility that people can do.

My only solution to the small HDD problem, which I have mentioned previously is, allow us to delete the backwards compatibility stuff on the HDD that takes up approx 6GB. I think a lot of people would use this if given the choice. Rather than buy 2*20GB HDD and only actually get 26GB of space to save stuff!!!

Could we not set up a US profile to be able to watch US-only content or is it a bitter more clever than that?

I would hope it is cleverer than that. MS must see all the guides on the net on how to create US and Jap accounts to get around regional downlaod restrictions. I can't see their content partners being happy if it is this simple. Especially as Tv shows will be distributed next day (ala iTunes), and most of these shows are not yet showing in the UK (and elsewhere).

I reckon some sort of ip filtering (ala iTunes) and Gold accounts only to download.

I believe this weeks MajorNelson podcast is going to have much more details. I have yet to find transcripts of his podcasts or summaries anywhere on the web, so may actually listen to a podcast for the first time this week, even if it just says "HAHA no Movies or Tv Shows for you Limeys, HAHA".

No wonder MS don't want to release a new hard disk if there solution they are touting is to buy 2 of them
Isn't that like another 70 quid? and as said you only get 26GB of storage from 2 disks? Which then is only 6GB higher than the cheapest PS3? Strange nothing about a new disk.

I'm sure one will get released, and at least announced before Xmas. Its possible that they are going to delay it as it might impact the sales of the HD-DVD drives.

The cynic in me is thinking its just so they sell more premiums + 1 HD at christmas time :D
Unless they are waiting for when they can do it world wide before releasing the Hard Disc though. Which i dont think will happen any time soon.

Do we know if all of the PS3 harddrive is useable though? It may have some space set aside for other things like the 360 does

Yeah i doubt it will be 20, but nobody had managed to confirm yet. We will know tomorrow :D. But as said most of the 360 HD space is taken up with the emulation software for backwards compatibility which the PS3 doesn't need.
Also the 360 uses the space to cache in games, but the PS3 is giving a users the option to do an install of some game files in order to speed some of it up also.
If i was taking a rough guestimate i would think the PS3 will keep 2-3 gig of the HDD's to themselves, i would think that should be enough for Op Sys, Firmware Update downloads and leave space for caching.
