Downloading videos off the internet?

Hi,

Is it possible to download videos legally from sites such as BBC etc?

If so is there any legal and free software I can use?

There is a plugin for Firefox called Download Helper. A quick google should find it. It's useful for grabbing video from Youtube and other sites. Not sure about the BBC though. Try it.

NetVideoHunter is a lesser know firefox addon that is far less popular than Download Helper (because it isn't as pretty) but works on almost every website.

N.B the bbc encrypt everything - legally they have no choice.

I know pirating is illegal...
But surely if you pay for a tv license, downloading BBC programmes for instance should be allowed?
You can keep programmes recorded with freeview/sky recorders forever.

It is not possible to download BBC stuff. It is therefore necessary to record to your computer using a Freeview card or satellite card in a slot. WinDVD7 is good

Not true.

Get_iPlayer still works well. Need to read some wikis/manuals to learn how to use it fully but it's capable of downloading the HD streams also.

It's probably no good, but you can download WMV files from iPlayer. But the have digital rights preventing them being played after 30 days.
