Downsampling in games that don't support AA?

I've just seen the screenshots of GTA4 and was wondering if this could be applied to other games that don't support AA? For example, in Dead Space there is a lack of AA and enabling it in Nvidia control panel doesn't work, so could you set it to display at a higher resolution and then downsample it to native to get rid of the jaggies?

I would try it but I can't find any sort of file for Dead Space which stores stuff like resolution so I can't change it.

you want to raise the resolution and then lower it again ?
im clearly missing something....sometimes renaming the ***.exe works for forcing AA in games.

Supersampling is a form of antialiasing and hasn't been supported by (at least nvidias) drivers for a while, so I doubt it. As Amnesia said, you'd be much better off figuring out why you can't enable AA.

Believe me i've tried everything in Dead Space, it's something to do with the lighting they use and nothing works (tried searching too).

Amnesia, say you rendered the game in 2560x1600 and then had the monitor resize it to 1920x1200, it would remove jagged edges would it not? Like when you downsize an image in Photoshop. Arma2 lets you do it and I think that's how the GTA4 mod works.

Seeing as I get 200 FPS in Dead Space i could render at twice the resolution and still keep 60 FPS but have AA too.
