Not for the first time, DPD have screwed up my delivery.

I ordered a Samsung P2450H 24" and it was scheduled to be delivered next day (today) in the afternoon, Nothing as of 5pm so a phone call to DPD uncovers the fact that the driver does not know where he has put the box as it's no longer on his van.

/sigh not the first time DPD have failed at the basics.

Its OK -DPD tried to tell me "Well we tried to deliver it 3 times this week and you werent in", when i replied I work from home, and I am up from 6am onwards they got "umming and arring" with me.

When I asked them to call me when they are outside if they are having so much trouble getting hold of me, they said "Oh well we dont give drivers mobile phones, they are their own, so they refuse to use them for work"?

The driver has well got sticky fingers.

DHL decided to mysteriously loose my Antec Skeleon case when sending that. Went completly missing in the depot. I can only imagine that was swiped as well.....the box was HUGE.

My thoughts exactly, you could tell by the ladys voice on the phone that she was a bit mystified as to how it could just go missing.

Hummmm... Whenever i have stuff shipped with DPD i now get an email or a text telling me to within an hour when its goign to be delivered.. As far as i can recall as well you can specify a Pre Timeslot(Pre9, Pre noon etc) but not Post time deliveries..

There are quite a few things that can cause a "It ain't on the van" scenario.

1) Loading error at depot. Left off or put on wrong van. So driver thinks he has it on according to his manifest, but when the time comes to deliver, he can't find it.

2) Delivery error beyond driver control - parcel is wedged down the side of a pallet - usually this is only with smaller parcels or documents, they then get delivered along with the larger item.

3) Delivery error by driver. Dropped off wrong item at wrong customer. Anyone who did a paper round when they were younger will know how easy this is to do. "Right, number 23 next which should mean Daily Star...oh, crap, it's the Sun, that means I've cocked up somewhere earlier on in my round"

4) Driver/driver confusion. Subby meets up with normal driver as normal driver is struggling with workload. Subby takes a set number of parcels from normal driver and takes wrong one by mistake. Original driver can not find parcel as does not think it was taken by subby.

My advice? Get DPD to open a query file on it (I assume they have a system like this? We do and so do most other large couriers) and see what tomorrow brings. The majority of loading errors are sorted out overnight.

DPD just phoned me back and guess what, the driver has found the item on his van and will deliver it before 7pm!

Result. If you had told me a few years ago a driver could lose something in the back of a van I'd have thought you were having a laugh. But it does happen, seen it first hand!

I write software for logistics companies. It really is amazing how often things do just get lost. That's not a code word for stolen, things literally do get lost, all the time.

I love DPD. their deliveries are always very timely and efficient and their tracking system is very comprehensive.

They are the worst i always have my stuff sent to my work address..............they always try to deliver after 5pm when everyone has gone home.
Becuase it isn a busness address other players in the market always deliver between 8 am and 2 pm.
