So I don't really listen to music and haven't done for a few years. However in my younger days, The Chronic 2001 was pretty amazing with every single track being an instant classic.
Now maybe it's because I'm out of touch with the new tracks and music nowadays but despite all the positive reviews I just don't get it?! It sounds like complete crap to me and not something I would listen to at all. Think I'm getting old!
Anyone into their hip hop? Thoughts?

Yeah you are right. The new Dre album is wack, the Chronic was a banger. I totally get what you're saying the songs are just not catchly anymore and the beats uninspiring and dull.

The reviews for Kendrick Lemars last album are extremely positive and I didn't like that it. In fact I found it pretty awful.

I'll give the Dre album a few more listens, but initial thoughts are not favourable.

Its a shame, we've been waiting so long for a final Dre album to drop and this really wasn't great. I'm glad that he managed to get himself back in the studio and finally produce something but I think he has been out of the game for too long at this point. Not the way I wanted to see one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time bow out, but he leaves a legacy and has discovered some amazing talent over the years.

Glad I'm not the only one! Agree he is an absolute legend but this is not what I will remember him for. l won't bother listening to the album, I'll stick to the old nostalgia :D

it's absolute crap.
chronic and chronic 2001 or whatever they were called were great.

loved snoops firs album as well but all his since were crap imo

Complete waste of time this album. There's about 5 mins of dre on there, every song features other artists.... It's nothing like the legendary chronic 2001

This isn't a true follow up to The Chronic or 2001 or so I thought. Dre scrapped that because he didn't like it so this album is basically a soundtrack for the film which he produced.

Most of the albums like this that receive critical acclaim are brilliant. Sometimes they just need a few listens. I loved 2001. Almost every track was amazing. I will give this a good listen before passing judgement.

Like smokedog I haven't got on with Kendrick Lamars To Pimp a Butterfly. Good kid maad City is immense but I couldn't get on with most of the tracks on TPAB.

Your taste in music changes so things you enjoyed 15 years ago might not grab you the same way they used to also hip-hop isn't the same as it was back then and if it was well that would suck not having a change in a genre in over a decade would make it rather stale wouldn't you think?

You've got to respect the newer guys around trying to make there own influences and styles, has a positive impact on music :)

Going back in the history books now after seeing this thread, just dug out Eazy E's Str8 off tha Streetz of Muthaphukkin Compton... what an album!

He was the man, come from the streets real dirty streets, unlike rappers today.

The new NWA movie is out in a few days looking forward to that.

Edit: I need to listen to all of Compton properly, but I do like Medicine Man off the album.

Personally, I'm loving the new album! Genocide is a real stand-out track for me, and I love Kendrick's contributions. :)

Didn't know this was actually out yet. I remeember 5 or 6 years ago (maybe longer actually) there was always rumours of a new Dre album dropping soon and then him confirming it during an interview at an NFL game saying it was only weeks away.

Cannot for the life of me remember what that planned album was going to be called though. Anyone else remember it?

Detox - for years it was constantly months away from release.

Haven't heard Compton yet but from the comments in this thread I'm not holding out too much hope :(
