So? There are plenty of games that would have been ruined by being first person.

I disagree. To me, the whole point of a game is first person. I play games for escapism as I don't watch the crap that passes for television programmes.
So when I play a game, I like to be immersed in the world and not controlling a character on the screen. Third person reminds me that I'm playing a game and removes immersion.
Vampire Bloodlines, for instance, was a fantastic game but the only thing that blemished it for me was the fact that it whisks you out of first person when you engage in melee combat.
Even better is playing a first person game in 3d. Just like a holodeck.

Sorry but that's ridiculous. The game market is flooded by FPS games. I want a game to be different. The storyline is the immersive part for me - I have to be drawn into the game. Whether it be third-person, overhead or whatever doesn't matter as long as the game is good and immersive.

Zelda: A Link to the Past and the Legacy Of Kain series have been some of the best games I've played because of the immersiveness.

Forget whether a game is in a specific format and just enjoy it.

On topic though the Dracula Origin game looks awesome I hope it's good!

Looks very cool, will be keeping an eye on this one, cheers Neil :)

On the whole fps thing, ome of the best games I've played have been 3rd person - the Pop trilogy, Witcher, pretty much all mmo's, Sam and Max..

It doesn't need to be first person to be immersive - in fact 3rd person immerses you even more I feel when you play a toon that wouldn't be anyone like yourself :)

I have to agree, get over it. Immersion has much more to do with atmosphere, music, art direction and storyline than it does with viewpoint. You're cutting yourself off from some of the most engrossing games there are - the witcher, the kotor series, gears of war. While I dislike the lack of a first person viewpoint, even when one exists I'll often only use it to admire the scenery before continuing in third person.

Oblivion could be played completely first person, it didn't make it feel any less plastic.

Couldn't agree more.... It's like saying that you can only immerse yourself in a movie if it is filmed first person ala Cloverfield/Blair Witch. People need to use their imaginations more, maybe try and read the odd book every now and again :) I'm sure some of the older forum members will tell you how immersive text adventure games used to be many years ago.

Thats not to say that if done well the first person viewpoint isn't a good way to tell a story, because some times it can be absolutely brilliant. Just try not to rule things out if they are not first person as you'll miss out on a lot of stuff.
