Ive recently moved into to a new house and Ive got a massive utility room not doing a lot so Ive decided to make it into a bar :D

What do I need to get in order to have draft beer? Obviously the kegs but that isn't a problem, I know I need some gas but what else I'm not entirely sure.

Also are there any practical problems that I haven't thought about?

Cheers, Mark

I'm pretty sure there was a thread about this before with someone looking for a tap and it was said you need coolers fitted on the cables. Also needs to be the correct pressure or you'll just get foam.

Hmmm ok, what about the mobile bars that you see at local events etc? Could I use one of them hooked up to a keg and gas?

In short you need a CO2 tank, regulator, tap, tubing, faucet, handle, and a refrigerator. Depending on how far the faucet is from the refrigerator it may or may not need to be cooled.

Make sure you avoid repulsive cooking lagers such as Foster's and Carling.

If you are stocking cans, avoid Carlsberg Special Brew. It was specifically designed to be central heating for tramps and tastes like viscous cats pee.

We get barrels from Milton Brewery for boat club events, keep them in a space type cooling jacket and just tap them as and when needed, probably a better option.

You don't need all that unless you want an exact replica of a pub draught pint.

Also you're on a UK board. Its a tap ;)

I've rented a keg before. Got the keg, the delivery mechanism and the tap that fits onto a hard surface, such as a bar of a kitchen worktop. If you want it properly chilled you'll have to spend good money on it.

You could try http://www.carlsbergdraughtmaster.co.uk/ smaller than pub types but still ok.

The problem with that is you have to drink Carlsberg :p

Behave. Carling is fine for a generic pint :)

I'd really love something like an Old Peculiar or Fursty Ferret tap.

Goddamn I want a nice cool ale now.

You can drink beer out of a bottle faster than out of a pint glass?

shelf life for a bottle is far far longer than a keg. So unless you have a party or drink stupid amounts every night, the keg will go off. Especially if its an ale/bitter.

IT will be larger, most probably Fosters as I know someone who can get them through his pub. Whats the shelf life like on a 11 gallon keg?

so doesn't that make it DRAUGHT beer ;)

Thatsa what I saida!

Ales go off pretty quickly but you can buy them much smaller. Bitters aren't worth bothering with. Lager would be fine in an 11 IMO.

Unless you're drinking a lot of beer on a regular basis it will go off before you drink it all; most kegs come as 9 galls (72 pints) for the smallest (very few pin size (4.5 gall) about now).

Oh I see,you mean pasturised **** or lager ....... in that case, don't worry, it'll keep for months if you keep the air out.

Yeah sorry title may be slightly missleading, and spelt wrong lol

Might see if I can get one of them mibile bar pumps through my mate who works in the industry.
