Hi all, I'm thinking about a build with the following applications in mind, in order of importance:
  • Generative art with Stable Diffusion, I'll need a good amount of VRAM
  • Blender 3D renderings
  • Gaming, Cyberpunk as a reference
  • dual boot Windows / Linux for development work

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor (£368.99 @ Overclockers.co.uk)

Total: £3128.86
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

I made it as a starting point, I've never assembled a desktop computer of this size independently, so feel free to be over-descriptive and suggest alternatives.

Thank you for your time!

First @tinerd welcome to the forum :)

Second please edit out all the competitiors you have mentioned as this forum is owned and run by OCUK and competitors are not allowed to be mentioned. (fine to leave the prices).

I would change the 3090ti to a 4080 as its much faster in blender. If you need more vram then the other option is a 4090.
For a 4090 you will need a bigger atx v3 psu like:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £673.96 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Cooler: this (under £50).

Changes:
- Swapped to a cheaper board, but it still retains PCI-E 5.0 graphics and 1x PCI-E 5.0 SSD.
- Swapped 3090 Ti to a 4090, since in some workloads it is a lot faster (article).
- Removed the 1TB SSD and replaced with 2TB, since it is better value.
- Removed the AIO, you don't need a £200 cooler for a 7800X3D, power consumption is very low, see here.
- Upgraded the PSU to an ATX 3.0/PCIE5 model to get a 12/16 pin and more headroom.
- Downgraded the RAM, this change is not ideal, but the X3D cares far less about ram speed than the non-X3D CPUs and it helped keep the cost down.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

I collected yours and other suggestions and came out with this final setup. Let me know what you think.
(I removed the monitor that I already have, and added a case)

Wouldn't you be better off going for a ATX 3.0 PSU for the new connecter on the 4090?

Save having to use the horrible 3 x 8 pin to 1 x new pin connecter?

Just my opinion but upto you

Can get this 1 for £4 more

I have a 4070Ti and it has a 2 x 8 pin adaptor that it came with as using a non atx 3.0 PSU but i can get a cable that changes this for the modular PSU.

2 x connecters from the PSU to 1 x new connecter.

This 1 below
