Dragging video into iTunes?

I'm pretty sure I used to simply drag videos into iTunes for me to sync for use on iPhone or iPad.

I don't appear to be able to do that any longer. Am I doing something wrong or is my memory playing tricks with me?

How else can I import videos into iTunes?

Is it set to copy the files into your iTunes Media Library on import as well? This could be causing a delay.

Also, have you checked all of the tabs, specifcally "home movies" as without correct metadata, all of mine end up bunched in there.

If your setup doesn't copy files over, maybe try setting it to do so, and see if anything happens. Also are they are MOV containers, but what's inside might not be suitable for iTunes. I assume they play ok in Quicktime?

In the past whenever I've downloaded anything, I simply drag it into iTunes and it copies it across. I think this method stopped working from the last iTunes update for some reason.

The mov files play fine in isolation, but I'd like to import them into iTunes if possible.

As a test, maybe remove one of the videos you already have in iTunes and add it again, just to make sure that the process still works and its the file you are using that is causing the issues. I have the most recent iTunes and once I have used handbrake files drag and drop without a problem. In fact I'm doing Evil Dead as we speak :)

Sounds like a plan, thanks. I'll give it a try.

I really don't like iTunes it's the single area I'm not an Apple fan I have to say!

I'm a recent convert as I'm needing to make my library accessible to an Apple TV for the gf as she is visually impaired and it helps to have voiceover switched on. I find it works ok, but it's a bit of a PITA to have to go through the whole, encoding and metadata process. Definitely something that XBMC excels at, but I have to admit I'm one of those weirdos who finds it satisfying looking at a neatly configured library ;)

Copytrans looks great but I'm on a Mac so no compatibility.

Has anyone used Wondershare MobileGo? I'm wondering if that looks a viable option to iTunes?

when i copy video into itune it only works in .mp4 or .m4v format and then its just drag and drop.

I use handbrake to convert anything thats not mp4

Thanks, I think I'm going to give handbrake a try.

The files show as a mov file, so I'll convert them as a .mp4 and try again. iTunes seems to add to library if it's an mp4 without issue.

Thanks all for the help :)

Handrake is great. If you want to get the metadata as well I definitely Recommend Subler, it'll give you all of the info and a choice of artwork for each video (assuming your videos are TV/Movies) :)

iFlicks is also good for meta data. Drag files into iflicks, it pulls all the metadata/covers, and then injects them into iTunes.
