I have a surveyors drawing, with dimensions etc.

Anyone reccomend me some easy to use (ish) software so that i can create a mock of what it could possibly look like?

Thanks.

How accurate do you want it to be..

Is it to be properly 3d?

Im tempted to suggest a gaming development environment.. possibly Hammer from Halflife2.. as long as what you are making is not for commercial gain yada yada etc. This would give you some fast and nice looking results.

But you would need HL2 etc for that..

So if you dont go that route then i can only think of proper modelling software, which seems overkill for something you want quick and easy.

sketchup would probably be adequate for what you need.

If you want to go more upmarket, something like Autocad architectural desktop or archicad (for mac) would suffice - although neither are particularly intuitive unless you work in the industry...

you can then render the model in loads of different ways..

My 2p.. good luck!

basically, i have a surveyor/architects drawing with dimensions etc all drawn on along with a basic look of what it will be like. I want to put these dimensions/draw the shapes up in an application where i can basically get an *idea* of what the building could look like when its built.

My 3d knowledge is very very lapse, sketchup looks good but maybe something a little better when it comes to rendering it would be nice?

build it in sketchup, i think you can export it to a format someone with autocad or 3dsm can use to add textures, lighting and render

iirc only the paid for sketch up can export to programs with decent render engines.

I'd suggest looking at solidworks (not strictly for architecture but it will work), 3ds max (definately used), 3d viz, autocad range.

Sketchup is a very capable tool and will produce perfectly adequate looking 3D buildings and renders with minimal time input, things like studio max take far longer to produce really descent looking work, if you dont put the time into studio it ends up looking very over rendered and just a mass of colour.

You could also try Gmax. It's just like a cut down version of 3D studio max and its free (just requires registration to get the serial number) from turbosquid.com
