I feel like a complete idiot. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to draw a coloured rectangle in photoshop. I just want a rectangle with a coloured outline and not filled. I just can't figure out how you do it. I can do a filled rectangle, and I can do a rectangle with a black outline. But I can't get a colour one. Someone help me please:o

i use c3, what i do is draw the shape with the black outline then in the layer section double click stroke and change that colour to whichever i want.

*edit*

you can also get to stroke via right clicking the shape and going to blending options and choosing stroke

Thanks that did it:)

You can do so many advanced things with photoshop but sometimes doing the really simple things is awkward.

I'm certain there are easier ways to do it but...

1. Draw shape with marquee tool.
2. Edit > Stroke
3. Choose outline color and thickness. Apply to 'outside'.

You can also do it by filling the shape, contracting it and then hitting the delete button.

Edit: Doh. Mustn't watch TV while trying to answer a question.

Ooh, old skool! Nuff respec' to the Pre-5.5 OG! You'll be warning Psyk to save often because of the unforgiving single Undo next :D ;)

[EDIT: Hope that doesn't come across as having a dig - I'm from the dark days of 4.0, myself. :) Now, as someone who uses Photoshop professionally, I couldn't live without the non-destructive Blending Options... ]

It's all good!
I didn't start using it until v5 which is when they introduced multiple undo I believe. It's come a long way though.
