Draytek on Vodafone FTTC

yup you're right. bad day at work.. sorry all

humble pie inserted. double helping inserted. cough..... triple helping........ yup needed that

half an hour eh... hmmm. you know the DHCP value at vodafone.....

sorry but WTF.

I know i have a valid static IP as I am an IT professional and have checked it as anyone would. the 30min thing is like what? a value? a figure?

sorry dude but the entire thread has been about WHY the hell a standard router wont connect. The answer was because Vodafone gave the wrong credentials. Your comment is not relevant. The issue was the fact THEY gave me wrong creds over and over

If i am wrong them flame/report/whatever.

I have re-read this and it sounds angry but it isnt. just factual.

The half an hour thing is so that turning the router off and back on does not trigger a DLM intervention and lower your connection speed. It's a well know trick used by plenty of peeps when troubleshooting, as an "IT Professional" i would have thought you would know that.

Well actually, many "IT Professionals" will be aware that most router/modems these days have something called "last gasp". If you switch off your modem//router correctly, so using the power switch rather than just yanking out cables, or there being an actual power outage, a "last gasp" message is sent to the exchange equipment saying, in layman's terms "The modem/router currently going down is expected and user initiated, please don't trigger DLM".
This technology has been around for a few years now and as far as I know, the majority of exchange equipment and equipment supplied by ISP's use this technology - I'd expect commercial equipment to also have it as standard.

Yeah you won’t stuff your DLM unless your sync loss is due to yanking the phone line out of the router.

If you just wanted to verify that you have a static IP (which you will if you’ve been told you have one, and have to use business account credentials) then you can drop a PPP session without tearing down the link.

You should be able to push the interface MTU up to 1508 and then up the PPPoE MTU to 1500 on a Draytek with Vodafone, this will let you run full size ethernet packets across the link.
