Hello chaps,

I have bought this to replace my BT infinity modem, bought it second hand on ebay, i just need some help setting it up for BT infinity. Seems as though this modem was purchased in Europe so they wont let me have access to the uk support. But the person who sold it to me advised they were using it in the uk. But i have done a factory reset.

AFAIK you should just need to set the VDSL2 VLAN Tag to 101.

The modem was playing up, i been on infinity since they released it, i had to keep rebooting the modem every week.

I'd have gone for a straight replacement (unless the Vigor was really, really, cheap).

Nothing wrong with the Vigor, just expensive compared to a secondhand BT Openreach modem.

What router are you using with it? As that will depend on if you're using it in bridge mode where the router does the authentication or not.

I have tried that firmware was the first thing i did, It just caused the router to reboot non stop, had to force the firmware on a recovery tool. I have a bad feeling this modem is a EU version and not UK. I am sure the seller said it was compatible on BT infinity

Sounds like it's not the UK model.

Are you connected to an ECI cabinet in the street? If not you are better off with a Broadcom based modem like the Openreach HG612 or a ZyXEL VMG1312-B10A / VMG8324-B10A / VMG8924-B10A etc.

I am connected to the street, I get a full 76meg down and 18 up. I messaged the seller her was using it in the EU not UK. I have asked for a return which is fair enough?

Depends on how it was listed.

I wouldn't have thought that they'd have a UK specific hardware version. The firmware will vary by region, but you appear to say that you managed to reflash it.

I had to re flash it with the EU version. The specific version for the UK makes the modem have a fit. He has accepted the return and willing to pay the postage I offered as well.

You need to find out what type of cabinet you are connected to in the street. There are 2 types Huawei or ECI. If you are connected to a Huawei cabinet then a Broadcom based modem is best.

Fair enough then.

Buy a HG612 instead and spend the £25 you'll save on something more interesting.

I've had one HG612 that started to play up. It turned out to be a problem with the PSU rather than the actual modem.
