Dreamcast Games On Live?

A friend of mine has just told me that Microsoft have bought the rights to Dreamcast games and that they are going to be appearing on Live for between £5-£10 each.

I'm not sure about this as surely they would need some kind of Dreamcast emulation and even on a box as powerful as the 360 it would make for some slow and choppy gaming?

Can anyone shed some light?

I've not heard of this also but the fact that Sega are now a purely Software or Arcade Machine company now will make it more likely as they would'nt want to put there games on a console if they had there own console out.

It would be pretty cool if they did put some of the older games on there as the DreamCast and Xbox 360 pads are pretty similar button wise if i remember what a dreamcast pad looks like properly hehe

There was meant to be a SEGA press release a while ago. Many thought that it may be them getting back into the console market. I havent heard anything about DC games being available on LIVE, but perhaps this is what SEGA had in mind. Given that the 360 can emulate the original xbox it shouldnt be to difficult to get DC emulation running if this is indeed true. I have my doubts though.

Bring on the fishing :D

While I would normally be the first to dismiss anything "a friend" has said, this would be so cool. It would make some sense too... Revolution competition anyone?

Doubt it will happen, but if it did I would be in heaven... Soul Calibur, Shenmue, Samba De Amigo, Crazi Taxi, Virtua Tennis, Powerstone, Daytona, Chu Chu Rocket etc etc oh how I miss thee.

very good point, when Nintendo announced that they would have their back catalogue available for download, it wouldn't suprise me at all if M$ went to knock on Segas door!

I know Sega are supposed to be annoucing the rebirth of the dreamcast on the 16th of feb, but I think its Japan only.

The 're-birth' that you speak of is just reconditioned dreamcasts and old stock. It is indeed suppost to be happening though and as you say japan only.

When I first heard about it I had visions of new remoddled DC's... Sadly not:(

Back on topic:D would be great but I also cant see it happenning. If anything I think MS will take a select few titles and port them rather than emulate.

Lets see how much of this comes true.

"1. Sometime around november 2006, MS is launching a complete
media service on the marketplace. This will range from 99 cent
songs, to 3.99 streaming movies. (just said the prices, you do
your own math to convert them to points).

2. At next E3, MS will announce a parternship with Blizzard that
will bring World of Warcraft exclusively to 360. The deal is
done, and Blizzard is working on porting the game and a console
control scheme. This game will also include a unannounced
expansion that the PC gamers will have to wait about a month to get
after we get this game. The other news, I don't know if this is
good or Bad to you guys, but only 360 gamers will be on specific 360
servers, he said this was because the game will include voice chat, and
it wouldn't work with PC gamers, unfair advantage yada yada....

3. Wasn't sure on a exact date, but said Halo 3 will be out before X'mas
2006. Exact words were Quarter 4 of 2006.

And the best for last at least to me.

There will be over 50 Sega dremcast games on the xbox live arcade
within 2 years. Launched a handfull at a time, he said the first
game will be Bonks adverture, which should be out in September
2006. Every dreamcast game released on 360 will be priced
at around 10 dollars. or however many points that is. "

erm,

wasnt bonks adventure on the pc engine a long long time before the dreamcast? Cant say i ever heard of a dreamcast port? In fact a quick look at google and there wasnt. Strange maybe microsoft will be releasing cross platform emulation of old classics as well as arcade and dreamcast. Now that would be even cooler than dreamcast games alone. One system that could run all your favourite classics (except the nintendo ones).

M$ cashing in on what a lot of xbox owners have been doing for years with emulators.

Cheers,
Hugest
